GAA All Star Wars

Any idea who the selection committee was this year?

Bubbles had a good year too in fairness.

yeah, i was thinking that, the semi probably did him in, pundits are very guilty of having short term memories …

I don’t think you can be completely anonymous in your biggest game of the year and get an all star.

Does anyone know if this is still the case for the All Stars? I’m asking the posters who are currently in the intercounty scene specifically here.

*The composition of the All Star teams are decided on the basis of a shortlist compiled by a selection committee of sports journalists from the national media, while the overall winners are *chosen by inter-county players themselves

Richie Hogan got taken off in the replay last year and got Hurler of the Year tbf

I dont think so…going on secondary knowledge

Good point. I guess he had enough in the bank.

Bubbles played three championship games, was good in two and anonymous in the biggest game. That’s not all star level of performing IMO.

I agree. All the complaints about KK only having 4 games to win an AI and Tipp are in the same boat.

Yes, I was of that impression that it was old information as well. I believe there are a committee appointed now of journalists and former players/managers.

Sorry he did. But i missed that game live so maybe the hoopla of that performance bypassed me

Still not a great team. As count says Alyward gets a soft one

Holden is no Noel Hickey but he saw off the oppostions main man in each of the games without undue fuss. McDonald, Canning, Shanahan and Canning. Goalie was rarely exposed. He got man of match in All Ireland club final to throw into the mix. There wasn’t another full back to touch him.

Aylward scored 3-6 against Wexford. 0-3 against Galway, 0-4 against Waterford’s bunched defence and a couple of points in final. Consistently good and a great return in his debut starting season.

Bubbles unlucky alright. Zane Keenan another fabulous hurler who had a very good year and should have got at least a nomination.

Spot on. Except for Bubbles being unlucky. He simply didn’t do enough.

Zane possibly, but Joe Fitz absolutely deserved a nomination.

Maybe he deserved ya. Still got it be heavily protected and being average enough compared to alot of past winners.

Think its just a reflection of hurling now

A fair point, i just dont think of him as a threat but that can happen when he plays with the likes of TJ reid and Richie Hogan. I didnt realise his scoring was as consistent as it was.

The new Fogarty.

In fairness, that’s exactly how Richie McCarthy got one in 2013.

He wasn’t cleaned either though. Anonymous from a back is alright if his man doesn’t do much either. And he was massive in the first two.
