GAA All Star Wars

They’re worthless. The only one that actually counts is the McCarthy cup. You don’t see 50,000 people lining the streets for the All-Stars homecoming.

Of course they are

Michael Fennelly omission strange. Carried a KK team on its last legs to the final.

Only played a game and a half all year.

Galway have had plenty of all stars since 1988. I can assure you nobody in Galway is talking about e.g. Joe Cooney’s all star in 1990…

They’re worthy to the players, but I always found it amusing how other lads took pleasure in it. Journalists I ask ya.

@Fagan_ODowd - who was Mount Sion’s HOTY and when? Did Ken McGrath get it one year or was it someone from way back?

Guess again. 1998

It was Tony Browne @Bandage.

Of course, thanks for clarifying.

Did any Faythe Harrier ever win it?

Larryo got one of them in '96. But there were a few of them going around back then. What was/is the official one?

The one announced on All Star night.

A quick wiki shows Martin Storey won that in 1996 and records only kept from 1995 onwards.

I’m off to check the Texaco Hurler of the Year listing.

The award was discontinued in 2012 after Texaco withdrew their sponsorship. The bastards.

Larryo won it in 1996.

I think there was also an Irish Independent or Irish Star HotY award back then too. Allow me to google that please.

Ah shhhhtop. They’re nice to get all the same. Flawed and all as they are.

The texaco award was the big one back in the day alright.

His name is Tadhg. Please watch your spelling.
