GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

Aaron Kernan was an excellent inter-county player.

Jamie Clarke was a magnificent talent, one of the most talented forwards in the game.

What did Corofin have, Gary Sice who was a competent inter-county player at best, and Ian Burke who had one decent year at inter-county level before vanishing off the face of the map.

All those palmed goals were iconic.

I don’t think 3 in a row will ever be done again so Corofin are quite rightly the GOAT Club team.

All-Star Kieran Fitzgerald

Big Bernie Power in goal too.

This is a grand little debate I’ve got going here.

An All-Star in a previous lifetime.

I think a lot of those Corofin lads must have found inter county football utter drudgery

Sure they were playing for Kevin Walsh ffs

As is their right. But inter-county is where the greatness of players is made.

I think a lot of the Ballymun lads who played for Dublin found club football drudgery. Didn’t affect their status as greats of the game.

Had Corofin been in a harder club championship, ie. Dublin, or even Mayo, they sure wouldn’t have been coming out of it every year.

Corofin at their peak would have beaten the Galway senior side which tells you all you need to know about the basket case that is Galway.

On another note, I was reading on the RTE Guide that TG4 are doing a tribute show to Corofin on December 30th.

However when I look up the Sky TV Guide it says there’s some other game shown at the same time.

Anyone know whats going on? I was going to send TG4 an email but said I’d ask the TFK Experts first.

Apparently Corofin at their peak would have beaten Dublin.

Joe Brolly said so, anyway.

I think in my lifetime the only one we lost to crime in Waterford GAA was Stokey Walsh. Stokey started with Mount Sion but transferred to Erin’s Own when he was 18. He was on the county intermediate team around 1990. He was a fairly poor cat burglar (he had been a kleptomaniac from an early age) and spent most of his adult life behind bars.

Why were they called cat burglars @Fagan_ODowd .You never hear of a good cat burglar anymore

Because they could climb up to an open window and get in like a cat. I’d say most of the skill is gone out of housebreaking now and it’s just lads bludgeoning their way in now.

He was hardly a star player, think he played a bit of junior with them

Didn’t Corofin generally get a better test within Galway than outside?

Look at Knockmore in Mayo. Second county title in a row in Mayo with Kevin McLoughlin the only regular inter county player.

The facts are that the club championship is entirely different to inter county and can’t be judged by the same criteria. It’s the same competition that allowed Longford beat Dublin to win Leinster and Carlow hurlers get to the All Ireland final.

Ballymun Kickhams are a prime example of how things are different.

Because they did their house breaking north of the Suir ??? @Fagan_ODowd

Yes. They had a number of close scrapes in the latter stages in Galway most years. Mountbellew had them bet one year and Corofin worked possession for about 2 minutes to score a fisted point in about the 5th minute of added time to take it to a replay. Which they won. Annaghdown almost had them bet another year.

4 All-Ireland’s in 6 years including a 3 in a row. Won their finals by 10, 15, 12 and 8 points (granted that one went to extra time). Against some proper clubs as well.
