GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

I recall us playing Longford under the two of them in a qualifier in Carrick and us getting beaten.

There were clear instructions to the inside three forwards to stay within the 21 yard line which resulted in numerous breakdowns of our attacks out the pitch as we didn’t have the kicking ability for long kicks inside. I recall it being a ridiculous system given the players we had. Today’s sweeper put an end to that as a tactic .

But who am I to say? Moran has certainly had a good career.

You have to pay the big bucks to get to the top of the mountain.

Kilcoo set their stall out appointing Moran on a 3 year term and when Moran asked to bring Gilligan, Devlin and Cummings the S&C guy from Derry who wouldn’t come cheap, they got their just rewards.

Moran loved playing three inside the 21 with Mayo as Ciaran McDonald was able to give the boys the ball on a plate from 60 yards out the pitch.

I get the point but we don’t have the unique funding model that’s allegedly attached to Kilcoo…
On top of that while success is always welcome coming at the cost of style is difficult to take.

He did when it came off , most of the time it didn’t …Mayo were hardly a scoring machine…

It must of came off a few times well they got to the all Ireland final that year.

Very harsh. Mcdonald was a smashing player. Well able to drive through the middle and take his own score too.

He was a smashing player but I think it’s incorrect to say he had pin point accuracy …he was flamboyant but I think a lot more passes didn’t come off for him…

I’m not sure about that.

Mayo hadn’t great inside forwards when he was around. The likes of Conor Mortimer - meh.

Don’t forget that spoofer John Casey.
He was the man that spawned the line “If it was a Mayo forward on the grassy knoll that day in Dallas Kennedy would be still alive”….

Maurice Sheridan is slightly more blameless than Casey but only by the width of a post….

There was no one on the grassy knoll. Oswald acted alone.

Casey made the collar up look acceptable

And nose strip

He’s more known for his knickers down look in All-Ireland finals.

He was a classy player and brilliant to watch but he’s a bit overrated. He wasn’t that consistently effective at inter county level.

Are the others boys on the mgmt team staying on?

Yes Conleith or “Deets” as they call him and Richard Thornton have been appointed Joint Managers.

Me man reckons wee James has stepped away from the Down job tonight.

No wonder, they are a mess. Is it 1 Kilcoo player?

The word is they had a training weekend in Dublin. Supposed to have meal after in house game and only management showed up with players going on the lash.

Seems like there’s one of these stories every year but down seem to have been fuckacting throughout the league too.
