It’d be like Kerry bringing back Micko

One should never go back. Unless you’re Jack O’Connor

He’s won nothing yet

Jacks won it all

Ah now Micko was a more successful manager than Maughan. You can’t compare them. Maughan had a good track record with Clare and in his couple of stints with Mayo but it’s gone south for him in the last 15 years.

Did Heffo go back to the Dubs? Did he give it up for a year and Tony Hanahoe player managed them?

I was on a sideline one day when he was over Mayo. The language out of him was amazing.
He cursed his own lads mistakes relentlessly, he cursed the linesman and the referee whether they were right or wrong and ended up fucking whoever was writing the substitution docket out of it for tardiness.

I casually said to him at one stage that I’d hate to be near you if you were losing. He told me to fuck off with myself to which I said I’ll get Gerry Flanagan after you….He burst out laughing and we shook hands.

yes, Hanahoe was manager for year and they won the all ireland, the story goes the following year early to mid season , Heffo just turned up training one night and all of a sudden again!

Did himself and Micko Dwyer ever get friendly ? I know they didn’t go near eachother in their prime but later in life ? Or was it euegene mcgee that he didn’t interact with …

I think it was both with Heffo !!

I remember John macarthy , James’s dad , saying he wouldn’t cross the road to talk to heffo…

It definitely was - poison between him and McGee during 5 straight Dublin senior finals (1972-76) between Vincents and McGee’s UCD. They won 2 each on the field and UCD refused to play one final because of exams and Vincents were awarded the match.

That was it … I didn’t remember Offaly
And Dublin having a massive rivalry alright … those Vincent’s UCD matches were meant to have been absolutely filthy

I was at his funeral - know his daughter a long time. Can’t recall if Micko was there but all of the Kerry greats were, Jacko, Bomber, Mikey Sheehy and so on.

Jacko and Heffo got on very well through the International Rules, Heffo manager and Jacko captain

Jacko said Heffo was the best manager he ever had. Then the Kerry klaxons went off and Jacko was forced to deny saying it. But he said it.

Heffo was said to be decent hurler too, few senior hurling medals with vincents, several actually

his last manegerial success as a pensioner when he managed an under 16 hurling team in the club to a county title

Micko never pucked ball!
