GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

A thrilling ride on the merrygoround.

This one may never be topped. And there’s still lots of turning left to go yet.

The GAA managerial fraternity have risen heroically to the task of keeping the GAA in the news now there’s nothing else of interest going on in it.

The way things are unfolding it wouldn’t surprise me if Joe Brolly got the Mayo manager’s job.

Shefflin is gone.

To Connemara on his holidays.

Will Galway stay within the county to replace Shefflin? Mattie Kenny? Donoghue to return? Lynskey? AN Other? Will Davy do the dirty on Dublin? Derek McGrath and Colm Bonnar could be dark horses.

Let’s hope cusack is involved somewhere so he won’t be on the Sunday game anymore

Dublin need to up the money offer to Davy to secure him. They cant afford for his head to be turned.

It’s gas when counties announce managers on a “3 year term”, when both sides know they can be gone in the morning with no recourse.

Distance to Dublin = More expenses.

Easy decision.

It’s Mícheál O’Donaghue

Ya but the Galway manager gets unlimited Chicken breast sandwichs

While I think Donoghue is a very solid manager who will run an excellent set up, I would wonder about bringing him back now especially given how loyal he was towards the 2017 group in the seasons after.

Will he really make the hard calls and retire a number of that group?

Was it not the same problem Sheedy had with Tipp, namely, that the younger players were not ready/better than incumbents.

I think when you bring back a former A/I winning manager it is always very short term focused. Sheedy and Donoghue are not coming back to build a new panel or put in the hard yards so that the team is going to be in a better place in three years time. They are there to try and ring anything that may be left from the group they managed previously and development of younger and peripheral players isn’t the priority.

I don’t think the current Galway team is good enough to win an A/I and need to find new players to replace the Mcinerney’s, Coen’s, David Burke and Cooney over the next two seasons - would be surprised if Donoghue is the man to move on from those but maybe he is more ruthless than I give him credit for

That’s a big generalisation.

Tessio would have no problem getting rid of the older Galway players, especially after they shafted him last time. He’s the man they need right now.

At the end of the day its about winning all irelands. Do Tipp fans regret that last all ireland win?

Not for one minute. It was a glorious day.

Win today win tomorrow

That’s it exactly. Supporters want to win now, not just remaining relevant. Banners are forever.

That’s what Pat Fanning thought. He was wrong.
