GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

Win tomorrow is making sure your underage/schools is functioning correctly. However, discarding older players who are superior to younger players in order to build a team to contend in future at the expense of winning now, is not wise imho.

Huge in rugby. See lads saying Ireland would be better developing players in New Zealand than winning the series.

On the evidence of the semi final this year, Galway are not that far away. Yet, lads want to put the senior players on the scrape heap in order to build a team for the future who potentially could be futher away.

At another level obviously, but Laois did that hurling wise about 10 years ago with the likes of Willie Hyland, John A Delaney etc. Out with the old. We were left with a hape of young lads who took some awful beatings.

Yeah by all means play the younger player if he is superior. If he is not ready, you will do more damage long term. Limerick have the luxury now of integrating players slowly.

Thats different tbf. That was three end of season friendlies rather than actual competition

Discarding older players for the sake of it, just because they are old, is obviously madness.

I think the criticism arises when older players are not performing, yet still get picked over younger players. Obviously we, as supporters, don’t see training so maybe the younger players in question are not reaching the levels of even the underperforming older player.

There is a balance to be had because the scenario you definitely want to avoid is if 3 or 4 starting players retire all at once and then you have a massive void to fill if the players coming up behind have literally no experience.

Tipp this year is an example. They lost Paudie Maher, Brendan Maher, Bubbles & Callanan who all started the quarter-final the year before. However, Brendan Maher is an example of a player whose form in 2021 had, sadly, deteriorated completely and he was very lucky to hold his place for that quarter-final.

Davy, Derek, Molumphy and Eddie Brennan interviewed for Waterford job so far. EB said to be the front runner.

Wow, if that is true I’d be gobsmacked - Davy interviewed for the Waterford job??

He’ll soften the cough of the stooks.

Make them joint managers … a Garda and an Army man trying to work together would be box office !

There goes Michael Fennelly.

Three years done, shake hands, walk away leaving it better than you found it.

The slip-up in not making the Joe McDonagh final costing him?

The penalty shootout defeat to Down in the Christy Ring the first year was a bit of a setback too I suppose.

The trip to Ballyhale to Carrignore is handy

Fennelly and Derek as joint managers now under consideration.

The teacher and the lecturer. All they need now is a few students

Similar to what Tyrone did post Mickey Harte.

Two people to shoulder the pressure rather than one.

We must be rotten with money. Able to take on 2 ex intercounty managers.
