GAA Rule Changes

Tis plain as day. Some lad can’t be teached or telt

Two new Gaelic football rules are set to be tested in Dublin this evening ahead of being considered for possible introduction for the 2026 season.

The two rules in question are a four-point goal and a rule that would stop teams playing the ball back into their own half after crossing the halfway line.

The game will take place between Dublin clubs Fingallians and Round Towers at Abbottstown.

Jim is gone into wind-up mode now.

No harm see how these would work now teams are more familiar with the new game format. Much more realistic output to be gotten

Jim shouldn’t have blinked on the 4 point goal to begin with.

The rule on jot being allowed go back to your own half would eliminate the keep ball carry on leading up to the buzzer you would imagine

The keep ball Kerry demonstrated at the end of the first half, while frustrating should be allowed. Defences need to adapt to those moves. Needlessly wasting time to wind down a close game is a different story though and this would eliminate it.

Am I right in saying there was a significant increase in goals scored this year compared to last?

I wouldn’t mind discouraging it a little bit. Its horrible to watch

I don’t think so. I heard on a podcast today that there surprisingly was a decrease in goals

From what I see, players are fairly poor at shooting for goal.

An intricate move to open up the defence and then the forward blasts it straight at the keeper! The goal chances missed in the Kerry Tyrone game were ridiculous

Or an intricate move opens up a defence, and the player rather than show a bit of courage fists the ball over the bar.

The fisted points and palmed goals should be the next on the chopping block.

The only changes that were actually needed was to stop the back pass to the keeper and the back court rule.

This would have increased turnovers whilst at the same time not having silly scores like 2-28 to 3-25. It’s impossible to defend especially when the refs have stopped policing steps.

That half court rule makes it worse, defending teams will be incentivised to retreat to the half way line like they do in basketball and attacking teams will be slow to cross the line unless they are certain.

Some fellas want a shot clock, again that only incentivises deep defending.
Tis a fecking tackle clock you need, make the cunts come out and get it.

Steps have never been policed. The rule is literally unenforceable.

The kickout out of the arc is a great rule. Makes for contests. Hurling should look at it (as well as banning quick puck outs, and banning keepers getting the ball back from puckouts).

I dunno about the two pointer, two points for an auld simple rule violation especially.

Tap and go a great success & 3 up is a good rule too

Ban the fisted point and palmed goal

Imagine Soccer bringing in rules like ‘only 8 men can defend’ because too many games are ending 0-0.

Scorelines might increase to 6-5 on average per game but shur no one would take it seriously.

I’m finding it very difficult to muster any sort of enthusiasm for a Club Football POWER RANKINGS release.
