GAA Rule Changes

Incorrect. The kick out is key.

They’ll never get the rules just right.

The short kickout in football is fine with no backpass to the goalie, even in the second phase.

The rule banning the immediate backpass to the keeper from a kickout was a great one introduced a few years back.

The reality of it is, that the two best games of football played this year were in January under the old rules.

Incorrect. We had one of the greatest fielders of a ball in Fenton and we encouraged a game that never kicked the ball out to him. One of the greatest facets of the game. Completely wiped out. Just so a fucking goalie could see more ball.

Jesus wept.

Dublin could have used Fenton more if they wanted to.

The likes of a Kilcoo would have had zero chance of winning the All Ireland Club in 2022 without Bobo Kane being able to get short kickouts away.

130 goals this year in the football championship compared to 128 in 2024. 110 in 2023. Same number of matches in all three championships, 64.

Goals from the quarter-finals on:
2022: 18
2023: 11
2024: 7
2025: 12

That’s the fucking point!

Soccer banned the back pass because the game was boring and introduced the offside rule because it made the game better.

Basketball added three point line to increase scores and shot clock to improve spectacle.

Baseball put a pitch clock on games recently and it’s made the game way faster. Why? Because it was boring.

Rugby seems to have a new rule every time I watch it

Every sport changes it’s rules.

The backpass rule pales into insignificance compared to what Jim has done.

Even listening to Darragh Moloney on commentary the other day would give you ire - every time a shot is taken he’d go, ‘this is for 1’, this is for 2’ etc.

Its basically basketball now.

Same fellas complaining about the dubs going back across the pitch now think now it’s ok to do what Kerry did for about 90 seconds before half time because now there’s a buzzer :rofl:

The Dubs holding the ball for 90 seconds when being hunted down by Mayo in the dying moments of the 2017 final was iconic.

Paudie Clifford standing around the 45 soloing to himself for 45 seconds on Sunday was just grim.

Was like a training match !

Some really pointless comparisons to soccer. It’s a lot easier keep the ball with the hand rather than the foot.

A couple of lads who are raving about Clifford in one thread, want to put him back in the cage he was able to be kept in last year. We got to see inside forward play we haven’t seen for years in football. They’d have the bishop throwing in the ball if they could for the sake of tradition.

That’s an endorsement of the kick out rule. They were a horrible side to watch.

Limerick want systems to be allowed time to reboot before recommencing data processing.
Colour me surprised.

You’ve got to give the underdog a chance. Clashes of styles are what makes for classics.

Kilcoo v Corofin, Kilcoo v Kilmacud and Kilcoo v Glen (x2) were fantastic games too.

Even the one where they were edged out by Scotstown was a cracker.

Obsessed.

Limerick are all about the short puckouts. What I suggested wouldn’t suit them at all.

Banning the short puckout would be madness

The delay/dissent rules in football need to be introduced in hurling as soon as possible.
