GAA Special Congress - Proposal B

And therefore the best.

That makes a lot of sense. What was the argument against it and why is it never mentioned now ?

Neil Ewing of Sligo was the first person to properly make the argument in favour of the more equitable league format in the national press some years back. I never really came across a good argument against what he was saying.

I guess the rationale from a GAA point of view is that the straight Divisions 1-4 format gives you a Division 1 with the best teams in the country all playing each other and is supposedly a better television product.

If you’re a Dublin supporter, an elite Division 1 is great.

Your fixture list might be:
Kerry H
Armagh A
Tyrone H
Donegal A
Mayo H
Monaghan A
Meath H

Lots of juicy fixtures there, Saturday nights in Croke Park with pints at half time and some nice road trips.

But it leaves everybody else in the lurch.

You have to consider the wellness of the game as a whole.

Ger Gilroy, the Off The Ball lads and Colm Parkinson want a Gaelic football Premier League. They aren’t saying that, but that’s what they want. But that fucks the sport as a whole.

good post
whats happens when wexford , fermanagh get hammered by 20 points by a kerry or a dublin though in the league? and then every pundit and journo starts cribbing the system is wrong

What happened when Wexford hammered double All-Ireland champions Galway by 20 points in the league in Tuam in 2004?

Well played Brian McAvoy.

Nothing too controversial today. Hurling preliminary quarter finals are to stay.

Great news. I’d do away with the losing side but it is what it is. To untether the Joe Mc would be a disgrace. There has to be another way
