what was in this proposal B for Div 3 and Div 4 counties really?
say a county that loses a few matches early on and have no hope of winning their division, they are just playing games to prepare for the Tailteann Cup then really

Whatâs in the status quo for them?
they have a shot at the big time in the provincal championships, and if they are too weak for that, they can go play at a more appropriate standard in the tailteann cup for them. They have a league competition that pitches them at their own standard.
of course, some may prefer to go to play ball in the States rather than hang around for the Tailteann

The early to mid 00âs was a perfect storm in the sense that Laois and Westmeath had just enjoyed unprecedented underage success, Meath were under the management of Sean Boylan, Kildare had Micko and Wexford had the best forward in the province. Dublin were good but not very good and Offaly were still competitive with most. It was for a brief period a tremendous championship. Iâd say 2002-2005 were all very memorable Leinster championships.
But if they lose a provincial semi-final by a point theyâre gone and have no second chance in the qualifiers. Hardly seems fair. Youâd often see better teams in div 3 than lower half of div 2.
Iâve said this multiple times but the AI Football Championship is the only competition in the GAA that I know of that isnât graded.
The stooks mugged off the Iff the ball crowd
The more I read about b the less sense it seemed to make
Jez man , but sure there was elements of not fair in proposal b too. It is near impossible to be 100% fair to everyone . It is not the school sports day where everyone gets a medal.
Thereâs no sympathy in this game for anybody
True Balbec
counties may get on with it, train the fuck out of it for the tier 1 championship and if it doesnt go well , have a go at the tailteann
Was the rule passed where if you are on a county panel you canât play in America until the county exits the championship? Surely not fair.
Itâll definitely be changing. The year after next year at the latest.
probably, lets hope a format is found that is 100% fair to everyone!
when is the championship draw for 2022 to be held?
The championship draw đ¤Śđ Iâd forgotten they had to that now.
Is Super 8 still a thing now?
And at the end of the day to have them seething is great.
No reverts to original qualifier format.
This is how Tipp Senior hurling championship works and is a very competitive format. Very little Dead rubbers in the group stage. A couple of teams in the B championship could have been either in quarters or relegation, depending on the last round of games. The bigger teams tend to win their divisions any but format gives everyone a run at division and the Dan Breen County championship.
4 divisionional championships are played in a straight knockout format, equivalent to 4 provinces.
Then there are 2 divisions of 16, Dan Breen (A) and SĂŠamus Ăł Riain (B) with 4 groups of 4.
The top team in each group in Dan Breen are straight though to quarter finals. Divisional winners who donât qualify through the groups stages are drawn against the teams who finished 2nd. This year Killenaule were the only divisional winner who didnât qualify from the group stages, they were actually in the B championship, Loughmore were drawn from the 4 second place teams to play in a preliminary quarter final.
Loughmore won and entered Dan Breen quarters and Killenaule went back to SĂŠamus Ă Riain comp as they had qualified for that through their group
Bottom teams in the groups are in relegation semis and final for 1 relegation spot.
The top 2 in each group in SĂŠamus Ă Riain play off for that and winner goes up Senior A.
This format could work for football as it keeps the provences link to the all Ireland. NFL could continue as is.
But thatâs the problem.
When youâre in Division 3 or Division 4 you play to the low standards you are faced with.
When you are in Division 1 you play to a Division 1 standard, or you drop out of it.
That creates the vicious circle of lack of competitiveness between the divisions which is reinforced with every year.
With the Divisions 1A/1B/2A/2B format the gaps between divisions were not as great.
Like, if you were Sligo. Wexford or Fermanagh, you could hope to get promoted to Division 1A or 1B and actually stay there and become properly competitive - and get the same diet of regular quality football that Dublin or Kerry were getting.
That forced Sligo/Wexford/Fermanagh etc. to up their standards to a place where they could actually compete in the championship - and it prevented the really strong counties galloping away.
The standards between counties were closer - because the format was more equitable.
If Wexford have been playing Carlow and Waterford and Leitrim all spring, how can they compete come championship?
But if theyâve been playing Dublin and Mayo and Roscommon and Derry and Laois, say, they then have a much better platform to up their standards to a place where they can compete.
