Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

Amusing how @Heyyoubehindthebushes and the split season zealots seem to think it’s some kind of a 9 day wonder that the split season has enabled the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship to be played off before the end of October.

I took in the Tipperary Senior Hurling Final in 2016. I had been at a wedding locally the day before. A poignant occasion the hurling final turned out to be as Thurles Sarsfields won it on the day The Rattler Byrne died. It was played on 16 October 2016, a mere 6 weeks after Tipperary last played in and won a September All Ireland Final on 4 September 2016.

The first year of the split season had seen the Tipperary Senior Hurling final played on 23 October 2022, a mere 21 weeks after the Tipperary Senior Hurlers ended their championship campaign on 22 May 2022. A week later in 2022 than in 2016 as well.

So they had a longer period to play off the championship you are saying? 21 weeks as oppsoed to a 6 week sprint woth a staggered summer depending on the tipp IC managers discretion? The benefits of the split season is govong club players a clear calendar to plan and organise life. Thats 99% of players in the country. But sure its easy for you to comment for amateur players changing lofe around what you think is best.

Before you start carlow CB made the decision to play hirling and football separately but who actually gives a fuck about carlow

The thread title has it solved lads - move on

Sky have pulled the plug citing the split season

"A factor in this decision has been the new shortened GAA season and its knock-on impact on the number of games Sky Sports wanted to broadcast

ah fuck. what will we do when we cant post screenshots of Richard in Wycombe who wonders what this mad sport of lads with sticks hitting each other are or James in Newcastle who keeps saying handball and how easy it would be to score goals if you can pick it up and kick it past the keeper.

Another positive of the split season. Excellent.

The GGA/GAA season ending in July has been some disaster for the association.

Yeah but some muldoon kid from Cavan was able to travel to Kenmare to see Seanie Se kick frees in the mid/east/west Kerry club/county championship where the winning team gets relegated and the losing team gets to represent Kerry in Munster.

Week after week of low profile, presumably putrid fare. It’d be like if Sky only showed the SPL for half the year.

Larry McCarthy needs to be hoisted on his own petard.

Money talks. It don’t laugh or sing and it don’t walk.
Ergo, after next year, the football all Ireland will be the third week in August and the hurling a week earlier. The whole thing will be shoved back a month

It’ll finish the association.

The only people in favour of the split season are rugby fans, soccer fans and inter county fanatics.

I lol’d at that one. I remember a good article in the Guardian a couple of years ago suggesting possible divisional teams in Wexford. Be hard to fit into an uber dual county though.

Bandage is an athlete in his physical prime mate. He’d oust Sonia O’ Sullivan in a cross country race at this stage.

Ah will you stop, nobody goes to rugby matches anymore.

Buff is delighted that Sky are OUT OUT OUT

RTE didn’t really up their game since Sky came in so they’ll be as lazy, bland and inefficient as ever.

‘You were impressed by the Kilkenny forwards, Ursula?’

Sky Ireland have concluded that a bunch of terrorist supporters are more palatable and effective brand ambassadors than the GGA (cc @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy). This must be a massive wake up call for the association, and on the back of Jennifer O’Connell’s hard hitting opinion piece in Saturday’s Irish Times too.

Will Virgin Media get the spare games now or what will happen there? It’s previous guise TV3 used to televise matches from about 2007-2013. They showed the Kilkenny v Tipp qualifier live in 2013.

They wont either. That ubercunt Forbes will be more interested in having cameras at some lgbtqrstuvwxys parade in Alabama than she will in covering the championship
