I donāt get his point about moving back to u14 u16 etc. He just seems to be giving out for the sake of it. Small teams struggling to field teams and big town teams having too many players will still happen if they moved back to the old system.
His point is small clubs use under 15s to make up under 16 teams
But if they returned to the every two years thing the big clubs would have even more numbers for even less teams. The problem is with some clubs being too big and others being too small. Iām not sure thatās the point heās making though.
I dont see what has changed in that regards?
Just that you now have u13s making up u15s teams, and u15s making up 17s. There is no u16s.
Joe says there is ?
There is in some counties, competitions played for every age all the way up, u11, u12, u13, u14 etc. How it works is the odd number ages is the proper competition, and the even number ages are played over 6 weeks towards the end of the year and are much less serious and more a glorified blitz. It is designed to encourage the weaker players who previously would have been playing a year up and struggling, now each year they get to play at their age. Itās a decent idea and gives kids more games and some extra encouragement.
Another masterclass from JC. Heās spot on in with what he says.
The All-Ireland under 20 football final is on today. Apparently.
It might as well be taking place in a black hole in space for all the attention itāll receive.
Dublin v Kilkenny might get a smidgen more, in that some people might be aware it is on, but most of them will probably forget.
If the croke parks plan was to destroy inter county gaa then then theyāve done a great job. This is some farce of a set up.
Itās just incredible how Croke Park have gone about killing off inter-county GAA. Competitions that were once box office and drew big crowds mid summer, now played off in front of Spartan crowds on cold wet quasi winter Monday nights in early May. Scrapping of replays and gimmicks like penalty shoot outs and free taking lotteries. Young lads having the bulk of the heavy lifting of the inter-county season squashed into the same few weeks that theyāre doing their end of year college exams.
I was going to say itās without precedent in any sport, but itās FA Cup Final day today and thatās the template really for sporting bureaucrats destroying what was once one of the premier competitions in world sport.
The best analogy to what Croke Park has done is the messing around with the domestic cricket season and structures in England, prioritisation of pyjama cricket over the longer format of the game, resulting in the inevitable current pitiful state of the England test team.
Maybe the rugby authorities will follow the lead of the GAA next, push the Six Nations to the margins of the rugby calendar and clear the decks to play off the All Ireland League during the peak months of the rugby season.
Thereās too many games at the moment with all the round robin for big crowds to attend.
I remember back in the day the Tipp u21s would be waiting all year for a knockout game in Ennis which would draw a massive crowd.
Now the u20s (stupid change) Get 2/3 games before a final which is probably better for player development but a poor spectacle.
Cathal o Neil from Limerick isnāt allowed play in the 20s final because he played for the seniors.
I think heās playing with a junior a club maybe lower intermediate or whatever.
So From the middle of July if Limerick get to the final where he is likely to be a sub his only hurling will be junior hurling.
I wonder what will happen hereā¦
Itās to stop player burn out. Not many over 30 playing inter county these days. Weāll see if it improves.
Lads on the kk GAA thread yesterday wanting anybody over 30 cut from the panel. Itās a sad state.
Theyāve made a balls of it but its not due to the split season
Split season is the way to go but it needs to be moved back 6 weeks. They could do with cutting one of the 3 trachea if competition from inter-county calendar too. With the championship, a glorified round robin league, do you still need a league on top of your pre-season competitions in December and January.
If only there was a 2021/2022 Inter County/Club Championship template to work offā¦
Itās gas youād have a load of lads on here giving out about the hype about rugby and showing u20 internationals etcā¦ The GAA havenāt twigged yet that you need to drive your customers behaviour and not rely on it.
Gaa crowds down massively on 20 years ago
GGA fans unlike fans of pro sports dont have the passion to attend weekly games
Paudie Maher reckons the players are totally in favour of the earlier finish to inter county season. Players should be number 1.
Agreed. But the GAA should have been doubling down on promotion when launching the new structure to give it a chanceā¦ But maybe they donāt want it to succeed
