I wonder what prompted martins tweetâŚ.
At underage level its been a total disaster.
In Tipp anyway between U17 and Under 19 Hurling and Football, there was nothing played pre July 1st so theyâve been trying to run off 4 County Championshipâs with a huge crossover of players in both grades over the last 12 weeks in a blitz like format. Teams winning divisional titles on Wednesday Nights and out again in County Quarter Finals on the Saturday/Sunday.
All rushed off so the Schools can run off their competitions in another blitz like format, so the Inter County Scene can get 6 months uninterrupted from January - June.
Ridiculous stuff.
This is the start of it now.
Weâve destroyed the game of hurling for no real reason.
Less hurling now than ever before.
Skills will die off.
Very sad.
Waterford wonât finish top 3 in Munster in the next 10 years.
Hurling is finished in Waterford and Wexford unfortunately.
Both counties bring great colour to the games too when they are going well.
Of course In the microwave championships thereâs no time for calling games off because of the ridiculous scheduling
Theyâll have to apply for re-election to the Munster championship each year like teams who finished bottom of the Fourth Division of the Football League used to do before 1987.
So next year from January to June weâll find out which 3 off tipp, cork, Limerick and Clare will qualify from Munster.
In Leinster itâs even more interesting as we will have six months to salivate over which off Dublin or Wexford will join Kilkenny and Galway in the all Ireland series.
Six months and not a club championship game played in anger for that really exciting set of games.
This is going to be really good for the development of the game of hurling.
An annual Waterford v Kerry, promotion/relegation play off for the next 10 years could be box office.
Thatâs not true.
But carry on.
As Chief Marketing Manager of Box Office Industries, I dont even think this is something weâd be looking to add to our ever growing portfolio of Sponsorships.
Why do you care as a royalist and avowed English man would you not be more worried about a relegation battle between Lancashire and Yorkshire or something, frankly itâs bizarre.
A bit like Ireland v Wales in the Five Nations in the 1990s.
Great to see East Kerry giving Paudie and David Clifford a rest. The inter county zealots never mention that of course.
Mention What?
That they are flogged to death by the inter county season so they have to be rested for club games?
Great weather for midweek matches in the wind and rain.
What is your point?
Inter county zealots totally happy to see club championships rushed off midweek in pissing wind and rain. Split season has solved this issue.
You couldnât be more wrong⌠there are still club games going on midweek, and there are still club games being played in wind/rain.
Last Sunday being a classic of this genre.
