Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

All Ireland semiā€™s in August to tie in with Dublin horse show is one date. All about the social life for anti club brigade.

What is the GAA supposed to be about if it is not supposed to be about social life?

All human interaction is social life.

People like you want to turn the GAA into a joyless, spirit-crushing, uber-corporate entity.

The split season zealots are now officially waging a War On Fun.

Play the whole lot off in a week in January and just be done with it

So the new advanced mark an I hearing this correctly - if a ball is kicked inside into the 20 metre line from outside the 45 and it is caught clean, the attacking player can either call a mark or continue on. If they continue on and donā€™t score it will be called back for the mark similar to advantage from a free.

That seems to be very harsh on defenders and overly rewarding.

That is fucking ridiculous

Lads could be blasting the ball wide on purpose to run the clock down, well the Northern lads

Can we hold on to the over dramatics untill we actually see this in action

I donā€™t think rewarding poor finishing or punishing good covering defence is a great idea.

Yeah Iā€™m only whining and trying to be funny. Iā€™m glad they are trying something. I didnā€™t enjoy the championship as much this year. It must be unlikely all the rules will be carried anyway. The keeping 3 up is the only one Iā€™m fairly sure on.

I think their thinking is that they all kind of dovetail (gaa cliche alert)

Theyā€™re showing the games on TG4 and RTE next Friday and Saturday so we will know soon enough. I wonder could they be tasty as there may not be another chance to win a Railway Cup medal depending. Panels not announced yet.

The advanced mark happens less than once per game at the minute and itā€™s for any catch inside the 45. I wouldnā€™t be worrying about this new proposal too much, they will be as rare as hens teeth.

Like every decision in the modern gaa these football changes are suited to help the powerhouses.

An all Ireland without Kerry or Dublin and suddenly
A raft of proposals to help them win.

One of the best gaa days of the last 20 years was Donegal catching out Dublin and that result simply doesnā€™t happen under these proposals.

When Joe canning wants to be managed by Davy fitz in Galway it tells you absolutely nobody making decisions should be listening to the players.

Similar to the current advantage rule in a lot of ways - how many times does a player get half fouled going through, gets a free shot from 10 yards which he makes a mess of or the keeper makes a good save, and the play still gets brought back for a free - its way over rewarding as you say.

I like the element of decision making thats there at the minute where the attacker who gets the mark can either gamble and ā€˜play onā€™ if he wishes, but if he messes it up, there are consequences. I donā€™t like the idea of a ā€˜free playā€™ in sport at all. Very Rubbyish.

I have a great social life with the GAA. Dublin horse show clientele would not be circles i would be mixing in mind.

So after first ridiculing the idea that the GAA should promote social life, you then totally contradict yourself by saying the GAA is your social life.

Youā€™re an absolute simpleton.
