Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

That’s been the case with alot of top teams for about a decade, people have lost interest because the spectacle is largely shite and its almost impossible for flair players to prosper.

I have heard this but not sure it is true

They’d know Rian O’Neill and Soupy and maybe Grugan. Forker as well but there’s a mental tendency to confuse him with Aaron Kernan because he looks a bit like him, plays wing half back and has a first name that looks similar. Barry McCambridge has become known through constant repetition of the question “would anybody recognise Barry McCambridge?”

I’d recognise the first four but I still wouldn’t recognise McCambridge. I’d probably know the other players’ names if I saw them written down but I can’t remember them off the the top of my head.

Conor Turbitt and Aaron McKay, I’ve just remembered they exist.

not sure the story is actually true

lets say it is

well then if the kerry players as a group sign up to it and some few dont break ranks and say fuck this, I am going playing for my club, it suggests a lack of minerals\cajones in them

I thought it was at the player’s discretion in any case

That poster has shown himself previously to be a complusive so I’d take it with a pinch of salt.

It was read out at Tuesday nights Kerry County Board meeting.

@peddlerscross has sent the zealots into a frenzy.

Fair enough but as I said your a proven complusive liar and when you got pulled up on it ya disappeared from this thread for the guts of a month.

You’ll have to ladybird that one to me again.

thanks for that

kerry need to sort their own house out

take away the split season and have club and intercounty championships overlapping and kerry have an even bigger problem. the issue is the number of football championships in Kerry and number of matches within them not the split season

It is fast looking like kerry cannot manage their own house

the number of football competitions at adult football in kerry is

  • local district board league at the beginning of the year
  • county league which is played while kerry are in the championship
  • county club championships
  • county senior football championship ( divisional teams and senior club teams) which kind of produces lots of wishy washy, soulless contests
  • local district championship ( were great competitions , used be serious belting in them( serious but fair) as local teams battled it out for the bragging rights -many a time a junior team at county level took out a senior team at county level in the local district championship at year end

This is just bizarre stuff, all of these lads train 52 weeks of the year, its what they are programmed to do, playing a knockout divisional football game has no bearing on burnout or whether Kerry bottle it or not next June/July.
The Armagh lads must be crying with laughter that theyve forced this overreaction.

The whole physical burnout thing is a cod anyway, Conor Meyler was bemoaning burnout there a few weeks back and you’d see him on his “holidays” flat out on a Watt bike. The mental side of games is a different degree but I doubt Kerry players will get too fatigued mentally from the O Donoghue cup.

As @Fat_Pox rightly said, O Connor and O Neill will have these boys ready for the McGrath cup in Templetuohy.

This has NOTHING to do with split season btw, just an obsession with O Neill/O Connor, probably O Neill I would suggest.

The split season has created essentially semi pro / pro teams minus the rest period.

Kerry players are trained to peak in July / August.

Any games after this peak are a hinderance.

The injuries are piling up all over the country.

You either go back to a proper representative season or play without inter county players which is most likely
But something has to give.

This can’t continue.

Please come up with your solution so other than the split season.

I want dates for:
-Leagues start and finish
-Championships starts and Provincial finals
-all Ireland finals
-County finals
-All Ireland club finals

Also, when would club games be played. Dual clubs in Limerick like Mungret/Kildimo need 16 weeks to play their full schedule of games if they reach county finals in both codes.
Just say you reduce it to 12 weeks, where do you see those 12 rounds being played, especially the earlier rounds.

Also, if you can explain will these be knockout/league type competitions?

there is no mcgrath cup this year but i undertand what you are getting at

The kerry club competition structures need tweaking but this course of action is wrong

was it last year, it was generally agreed that the Cliffords would benefit from sitting out a few early league matches with kerry after a few consecutive long clubs campaigns with East Kerry and Fossa and this would be how it would play out.cue panic from Jack after a league loss or two and they are brought back in sooner than planned

but sure lets try steer them away from the o’donoghue cup competition in East Kerry instead - that will fix things for kerry in terms of winning all irelands

First of all if you have leagues you have no round robin. You simply can’t ask county teams to do both.

Let’s be realistic the league is know utterly pointless. Why should the league get preference over the clubs? It’s absolutely crazy.

the last 2 all ireland football winners have come from division 2 of the league. relegation from division 1 my not be the calamity some view it as

I’m not sure it’s a reflection on anything only that you can’t be doing much that early if you expect
To be peaking in July.

It’s too much for the players.

You’re talking to lads here who can’t understand the game
