Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

You want to cut another 3 weeks off the championship season? How about making provision for replays in the knock out stages so there isn’t the farce of a penalty shoot out lottery.

Stop vilifying club players for preferring a split season then. The timing is all the GAA’s fault and everyone on here seems to agree it could be moved on a few weeks

I’d do away with the All Ireland Club Finals

It’s the batshit club lobby extremists who have driven the move to July All-Ireland finals.

In truth it’s all Liam Griffins fault

Manchester City do have a large following in Ireland. These people are also called “Manchester United fans”.

Major faux paus by Joe Molloy on Newstalk there. Said after football final on July 24th, there is 2 werks of basically no sport with premier league not started. Joe must have forgot the All Ireland camogie and ladies football final on those 2 weekends after.

There has never been a complaint in most counties about county players missing club league games.

The complaints of club players were that they couldn’t plan anything without concrete dates for their championship fixtures, and that they didn’t get enough meaningful fixtures for the level of commitment now involved. In most counties, leagues are glorified challenge games.

The complaints of inter county players were that the season was too long, especially if you were consistently reaching the latter stages, and that there wasn’t enough meaningful games.

Both of these conundrums have been resolved by the split season

What sports are the Gaa giving up August and September to exactly? URC rugby isnt starting until end of September and as Sid has said the early stages of the Premier league are a cod. Is it Golf or Badminton maybe?

Club rugby is far more fun and social to play than the gaa equivalent.

Croke park is only interested in creating an even bigger inter county season which bizarrely lads on here seem to think it’s good for the clubs.

In Limerick at underage there’s clubs joining left, right and centre to field underage teams despite the senior hurling team team flying. The interest isn’t there.

Other counties will pump money into academy structures to compete at inter county level and in time unless your in that academy your chances of playing inter county gaa will be tiny just like professional football.

The next generation will be as attached to their counties as their clubs which has happened in rugby.

Whoever in their right mind thinks handing the first eight months to the county teams
Is as a good idea for clubs is either selfish or an idiot. This will soon become nine months and continue to grow just like the ever expanding rugby and soccer seasons.

The ever expanding inter county season is the threat to the clubs. A split season won’t solve that. It’ll just copper fasten inter county gaa as the only show in town.

Tickets being sold in shops for inter county games where you don’t even have to be a member of a club shows croke parks disregard for clubs.

Give it ten years and clubs will be folding all over the country due to the split season. It’s the single greatest mistake in the gaa.

In fairness it was crazy back in the day All Ireland replays going on the last weekend in September.

Surely the optimum time to finish it from the bandwagon point of view is early August before the EPL starts.

How would you solve the issue so mate?

Would you stop replying to him ffs

Theres enough sports on tv year round to watch if thats where you get your sports. Enough year round if you want to stand in a field and watch. Split season is for the players

Take an absolute sledgehammer to the inter county season.

Scrap the league and all these round robin games.

Six months of the inter county season is spent going from ten teams in the hurling championship down to six. It’s absolutely insane fellas can’t see it.

Stevie wonder can see what’s going on here. Bizarre lads are defending it.

Liverpool man united has clashed with at least two other all Ireland finals iirc. Pool 4 nil win same time as cork Meath in 1990 as cork won the double and berbatov hat trick as united win 3-2 clashed with cork v down in 2010. I missed both soccer matches as I was in croker.

The funny thing is county players are delighted with the split season. It is only the couch potatoes and journos who have an issue.

The split season is for the inter county season to expand even more.

The players have been sold a complete pup for fucks sake.

Club gaa will go like junior soccer with two people at it and a dog. Then the funding will disappear.

So schedule your season so?

Was it Jack McCaffrey or Jonny Cooper that was saying they were absolutely sickened they drew with Kerry that time because it meant they had to keep training for another few weeks
