Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

And itā€™s easy say lads can go on holidays or miss games for whatever reasons but In a few years time clubs will be even tighter for numbers and thatā€™ll lead to many more walkovers.

Thereā€™s a big difference. In previous years, club league matches and round Robin/group stages of County Championships were played off in July and August when young fellows were away travelling or club players in general were on holidays. Clubs would invariably have a full hand by the time the business end rolled around in late August.

The split season as it is structured and timed this year has ensured that many club championships are getting played out with severely depleted teams.

This seems like a Carlow county board issue. It will still be the end of August by the time the business end comes around in most counties

Itā€™s a Carlow county board ā€œissueā€ that Carlow are using the split season as it was intended to be used?

Heā€™s a lad with a wrong opinion and too much time. Youā€™d not want to give him too much credence

Carlowā€™s Joe McDonagh Cup campaign ended on 21 May. Five matches crammed into 5 weeks mini blitz style from 16 April to 21 May in mostly bad weather over the same few weeks that younger players were doing exams. Such was the unseemly rush from Croke Park to get it all played off they didnā€™t even bother with semi finals and Kerry (who finished level on points with Carlow) advanced to the final under tie-break rules.

Youā€™re now saying that the Carlow County Board should have waited over three months to start itā€™s County Championship until late August? So essentially what youā€™re advocating is that July and August should be preparatory months for the club season after the inter-county Championships are more or less done and dusted in late May/early June.

Lads we need to end this conversation by putting it all back 3 weeks as is the plan in 2023.

This will balance out everything nicely even the high stool sports fans around here.

Signing out.

Ah you might miss an auld league match at Easter or a county final at Halloween.

Iā€™ve heard the MLR influence on the county board in Carlow ensured hurling was played first. By all accounts the counties larger cohort of footballers are left with no game of consequence for nigh on 3 months while they play a 6 team round robin to eliminate 2 sides in the hurling. Surely theyā€™d alternate which goes first every second year. MLR looked undercooked against Ballyhale last year after weeks of football so Iā€™m not sure of the logic.

Seriously, Carlow :joy:

Ballinkillen beat St Mullins 2-14 to 1-9 just there now. Good start to the weekend for Eoin Larkin. St Mullins at nothing without Mouse Kavanagh and James Doyle in particular. Probably be a Rangers v Ballinkillen final.

Myshall in serious danger of not making the semi-finals at all. Theyā€™ve declined a long way from the days where they got within 3 points of James Stephenā€™s in a Leinster Championship game.

Myshall playing Bagenalstown at the moment. Winners of that will take last semi final slot and a hiding against Rangers.

Has bang got this on?

Viewing figures for tomorrows game will tell a lot

Thereā€™ll be no one watching it tomorrow

Is it on tomorrow?

Iā€™m going to leave the two TVs here on while I go to the game to give the figures a little boost.
