Galway - quadruple travails part 2

They can get Joe brolly to sort that

Anyone heading in Saturday night?

How did Trayers go at centre back against Tipp. I thought he looked decent albeit a bit light/wirey v Clare in the league this time last year

If you’re stuck I’ll drop you a DM if I’m back in time from a christening. I’ll miss every other home League game for international work commitments so want to get in on Saturday evening.

He was grand, more comfortable there than Lee who fared better at midfield so a win all around. I think this will be a bigger test for this young Galway team, Cork are approaching the league seriously and lads will want to impress BOC. Hopefully not a trimming.

I think we have turned the corner, not that I’d ever admit that. Competition for places now maybe. Cork will be good, but the surface won’t suit them. Pearse is for mullocking.

Thanks. I may or may not tip in. Flying back tomorrow night until Sunday. I’ll go with Hughie anyway, was just wondering if anyone was having a pint at some point. I don’t have a visa yet though. :grimacing:

You’ll never be on your own in Wards, Salthill anyways.

He was at 3 the last day I’m fairly sure and Daithi at 6. Trayers looked good but raw, brilliant athlete and great at attacking low ball hit in. I’d probably question how good he is at defending in tight spaces around the parallelogram

I’ve never understood various Galway managers obsession of moving daithi burke out of 3. He has 5 all stars there!

Robbing Peter to pay Paul

It was Shane O’Neill who started it?

He also tried to retire David Burke as a 30 year old and more or less retired Canning when he probably had another year or two in him.

He is not hectic at 6 either. Super full back and should never have been moved out.

I’d say he’ll be moved back to 3 as long as Trayers can hopefully stick at 6. Looks like they are losing faith in Gavin Lee as a 6. Probably doesn’t have enough defensive instincts for the position. As good as he is on the ball.

For all Trayers athleticism I’m not sure he’s the tidiest hurler. He gave 2 or 3 poor stick passes in the second half v Tipp.
A mix of him and Lee’s stick passing would be optimal.

It was a cold wet miserable night which was actually lit up by some of the hurling. I wouldn’t read anything into that.

I see Lee was playing centre forward for UCG during the week. Four points. Is he kinda jack of all trades master of…

When you know you know.

Still going to be an unbelievable athlete and player.

Galway Clubs have won 5 All Ireland Feile’s since 2018 which is really good going.

Presume Trayers was one of the main men on Turloughmore’s back to back winning teams in 2018 and 2019.

Aaron Niland and Sean Murphy are already Galway Senior panelists off the Clarinbridge team that hammered Ballygunner in the 2021 final in Semple Stadium. Think Micheal Donoghue coached that team.
