I think Gal have a right chance, I will be looking at the handicap as KK realize they have 2-3 games of big time hurling left for probably next 6-8 years and will fight on their backs for this and “as such” you couldn’t rule them out…
Galway cant be bad, they could have won an AI 2 years ago, and destroyed Limerick in the league Q finals. Coming in under the radar. They were very under cooked last year v Dublin in LF and never recovered, wont happen again I feel. Burkes x 2 have undoubtedly strengthened their defense and will be very interesting to see how Eoin Larkin, young Kelly inside go, I feel they will get no change from Galway backs. Richie Power however would be a serious addition for them and they’ll need him to win this, which the probably will in the end…
I presume Canning will be afforded a central position?
I’d be having a small cut off Galway (handicap) , the fact they have involved a lúdramán like Eugene Cloonan involved would make you wonder…
Referencing Limerick’s league campaign, you’re clutching at straws there, pal.
I reckon the Cats are dead certs for this one, if only for the fact I can’t remember a Galway manager tasting success against the Cats twice in the Championship since Cyril Farrell. Cunningham actually has the best record since, with a win and a draw back in 2012. We usually have to change the management and half the team between victories.
You’ve got that wrong. Surface is usually fairly good. Can be soft around october direction but perfect in June/July.
Offaly hurlers were refused access to it 2 years ago by groundsman.

I’ve thought for a while that the tendency of the club championship in Galway to have the sharp end played out through the late autumn on bad pitches has made the avearge senior galway hurler a far more effective winter unit, big and strong on a dark wet day and a heavy pitch. They need to finish the championship before mid sept every year.

I thought they wanted to train in Birr ? Ok …
Some want to play matches in Birr as it is the traditional place Offaly played hurling matches. Nothing to do with the surface. They just reckon they’d get more people at the match and they might have some hope on a smaller tight pitch. They forget that Offaly used to have good hurlers when they regularly won matches in Birr. In fairness O’Connor Park can be a bit of a graveyard with a small crowd but I think it is as good a venue as there is for a championship match like Sunday week.
Birr actually made shite of their pitch with a disastrous drainage change a few years back and couldn’t even train there themselves for a while.

I think O’Connor Park is lovely- that new stand is so easy to bring small children to and the Maors are so helpful. We were there twice last summer and it was a pleasure both times
The Maors in the Gaelic Grounds are really helpful too-
Yeah it is a smashing ground, right close to town centre. The only problem is that Offaly are gone so poor at both codes that people don’t go to see them any more and the place is often mostly empty for league matches, etc.
