This is the game I thought kp was referring to. Maybe I’m wrong.
There are still plenty of great years ahead mate.
That was some game. Galway have gone from being one of the best sides in the country to watch to possibly the worst over the last five years. McIntyre ruined them.
I looked at their 2005 team last night, there are still 5-6 involved from 9 years ago which I found strange…i’d say most teams have had a much higher turnover of players since then…any thought from Galway posters?
+1, Sometimes I think he was sent by the Tipp county board to directly set us back.
Agree.
But that’s a sad reflection of the lack of quality players coming through in my opinion… (18 - 20 year olds)
The journey between leaving Matt Murphys winning dressing room at 18 years old and making into the Galway senior team is far from a clear one. I would suggest that its a pretty badly designed journey… up until recently anyway.

not sure what you’re saying, there is no 18-20 YO talent? or its not being harnessed properly re dev to senior? I think its the latter, some fantastic talent on show in Galway at minor each year?
He hasn’t been the best player in the country at county level ever. He will do it for his club but once Ollie retires he will be off.
Just because a player is supremely talented doesn’t mean they necessarily enjoy the game or the shit that surrounds it especially when you are the first true ‘superstar’ hurler.
wtf are you on about?
there have always been iconic players in hurling and there will always be. truly great individuals who will be remembered forever. Currently Joe canning is not one of those. i hope he can turn things around because he is a fantastic player but the clock is ticking
Hurling is an utterly heroic pursuit. Those of us who are fortunate to grow up in places where it is played at a high level are deeply deeply priviledged in my view.

mcintyre was an asshole. loughnane was a headcase, naming a team on the pitch in ennis, he didnt give one fuck about galway and now is bitter his time there somewhat tarnished his ‘reputation’ they really fucked up not giving noel lane and mike mac more time conor hayes ffs. now after years of producing fast skilful hurlers we’ve switched to developing big minors in an attempt to catch up with the tipp/kk arms race, only for clare to nip in and win one with the type of players we’ve discarded. which style is going to prevail for a few years is still up for debate however. a fully motivated and united team and we could have pissed that all ireland last year.
Galway will beat Kilkenny, mark my word. Some lads just lack a fundemental appreciation of what Championship is all about, this time only a year ago plenty(mostly from Clare)y wanted Davy Fitz out and I lost count how many were making vows never to watch Wexford hurling again a year or so back.
