Galway v Tipperary - All Ireland Senior Hurling Semi-Final 2017

Congrats Tipp on your superiorness. Galway will be the toughest so far but I have every faith you will rise it up again and beat them out the back door.

Galway v Tipperary is on August 6th.

Have Galway and Tipperary ever played each other on August 6th before?

 go away you cunt.

Tipp will win this pulling up - they have the greatest set of forwards the game has ever seen.

They do but even with Barret back, that full back line is dodgy.

Tipp Cork brought over 60,000 in 2014

Barrett won’t be back. He wouldn’t be fit even if he was

If Tipp dragged Barrett out of Coppers at 2 am the night before the Semi he would improve that full back line .

Possibly up Cork Waterford by another 10k so

I think he meant that as hyperbole, Mike In any case only a thick would think the current tipp team have the greatest set of forwards ever assembled.

Michael Ryan is a genius. All Ireland champions heading into a semi final as underdogs, with only Galway and Waterford to beat. It’s the single greatest management stroke ever played. He’s a likeable fella too. Tipp by 9.

Galway will win pulling up. It’ll be slightly tougher than their Leinster final but no more than that.

John Denton says Tipp by 7.

Are we just going up for the day out? I think I’ll make a weekend out of it as we won’t have the expense of an all Ireland final this year

Tbh, I’m travelling with no expectations bar enjoying a few Hints with mates & @Mullach_Ide in our Capital city.

A complete record of all provincial champions (excluding Cody-era Kilkenny) who have gone straight into an All-Ireland semi-final since 1997:

1997 - Clare - 5 weeks - won by 4
1997 - Wexford - 5 weeks - lost by 7
1998 - Clare - 3 weeks - drew but ultimately won and then lost
1998 - Kilkenny - 6 weeks - won by 1
1999 - Cork - 5 weeks - won by 3
2000 - Cork - 5 weeks - lost by 4
2001 - Tipperary - 6 weeks - drew, won replay by 11
2002 - Waterford - 6 weeks - lost by 3
2003 - Cork - 6 weeks - drew, won replay by 13
2004 - Waterford - 6 weeks - lost by 3
2004 - Wexford - 6 weeks - lost by 20
2008 - Tipperary - 5 weeks - lost by 1
2009 - Tipperary - 5 weeks - won by 24
2010 - Waterford - 4 weeks - lost by 7
2011 - Tipperary - 5 weeks - won by 4
2012 - Galway - 5 weeks - won by 5
2012 - Tipperary - 5 weeks - lost by 18
2013 - Dublin - 5 weeks - lost by 4
2013 - Limerick - 5 weeks - lost by 8
2014 - Cork - 5 weeks - lost by 9
2015 - Tipperary - 5 weeks - lost by 1
2016 - Tipperary - 5 weeks - won by 2

7 wins, 3 draws*, 12 losses.

*Of those 3 draws, 2 resulted in replay wins, 1 was a replay loss.

Since the introduction of the full back door system in 2002, the record is 4 wins, 1 draw, 10 losses.

All that’s needed now is a Wexford ref (James Owens should fit the bill there) and Johnny Glynn getting spotted by an immigration official.

Some auld lad in a pair of slacks, short sleeve shirt and Waterford baseball cap approached James Owens for a chat on the way back into town from PĂĄirc Ui Chaoimh Nua yesterday*. James was dressed casually, sporting a white Wexford GAA polo shirt and a pair of fashionable shorts.

“You’re the referee, aren’t ya?”

“I am yeah.”

“Fair play. You’ve done some big games…”

“I did an All Ireland final alright.”

“Did you play much yourself?”

“Ah I played a bit.”

“Well you wouldn’t think it by the way you referee…”

And off he went.

*This did happen.
