General election 2016 results HUB

David Milliband, Pat Rabbite, Eamon Gilmore, Jermey Corbyn, Alan Kelly, Joan Burton, can you hear me Joan Burton, your boys took one hell of a beating ONE HELL OF A BEATING

Thanks @binkybarnes !!

The real story here is the end of the old party hegemony. FG/FF combined less than 50% potentially with significantly less than 50% at younger age groups.

The problem is that a hundred and one groupings who’ve shown little ability to work together in even small numbers have taken their place. The fragmentation has happened - how it consolidates over the next couple of years will dictate the politics and the direction of the country for the next generation.

I always said I would never consider returning home unless we were in power, I never thought it would come this quick, this is actually a huge day in my life, a game changer, everything is on the table now, unreal, unbelievable, I am actually crying with happiness here now

H’on the Shy Shinners!

With a national average of 16% Sinn Fein are in major “seat bonus” territory. They’re now in with a great chance of taking any seat where they were thought to be in contention beforehand.

I agree. You would have expected that % at least based on FFers who stayed at home the last time. They underperformed their % to seats last time as they were all over the shop so were picking up seats already.

FG/FF under 50% is insane. Kenny should be out on his ear this morning

Fine Gael’s campaign this time has been worse than the No campaign in the Scottish Independence referendum. And that’s some achievement.

So who’s the next Fine Gael leader?

A FG/FF coalition with Frances Fitzgerald as Taoiseach?!

Chaaaaaaarggggggeee

That shirt lifter Leo will surely be the next leader

Gerry Adams has built Sinn Fein from 0 seats to a position where they will be either the largest opposition party or in government for decades to come.

Some “electoral liability”.

FG and FF might as well get it over with and merge. Their duopoly is finished forever.

Great thread, Joe…

Delighted with the news that FG have been decimated… It looks like the unemployed, sick, disabled and lower income earners, all the people @carryharry, @HBV and TUM hate, came out to vote. 7 seats would be huge for SDs given they were only formed 8 months ago.

No chance. 5 max but I’d still say 3. Much harder to convert a low percentage national vote into seats.

What time roughly today can we expect the first counts in any constituency?

Love the drama of count day. Brian Dobson chatting inanely to some journalist about how the weather may have affected turnout before he dramatically declares “I’ve got to interrupt you there, they’re about to declare the first count in Dublin Central”
