General Election 2016

Noonan acting the bollocks again.

@ChocolateMice @Bandage

Is Paul Williams calling Mary Robinson a drug dealer, killer, kidnapper and terrorist?

I’m an employer kid. I’m a winner and so are my employees.

Labour are on 4% in a leaked poll due out tomorrow. Joan has been a disaster in the debates. I reckon that result reflects her performance more than anything else. Gilmore must be pissing himself laughing.

I love the socialist slant here. It’s in the main a SF/IRA doctrine and whatever these lads preach the masses here will follow.
The SF/ira posters here are in the main not living socialist lifestyles they preach.
Property owners, business owners, high achievers, international business men, dodgy accountants etc etv doing their best to gather up as much personal loot to allow a good personal lifestyle and have a bit to hand down to their offspring at the end.
The only real socialist here living a real socialist lifestyle is the poster @Sidney. Possibly @ChocolateMice too whose net gain from Ireland Inc far far exceeds his gross input.

It’s really interesting how sf/ira has a hold on people and can get them to argue out their ridiculous made up policies for them.

I’m a republican.

I know. And it’s really interesting how sf/ira can get intelligent high achievers like you to argue the most ridiculous made up policies on their behalf.
It’s fascinating.

You could flip that on its head and say the forums low achievers such as TUM ,Carryharry,Mac and the like have all bought into the FG/labour greed is good mantra

See @Sidney and @ChocolateMice @Nembo_Kid @Bandage are got up in 1916 .

Williams is a cunt

@Rocko @Sidney, I looked into it a little more this morning. The data below if from a paper by the Neri Institute in 2014. Rocko, the NERI institute is essentially a left-wing/union think tank so I presume it meets your approval. You were quite happy to have a cut off the authors of the last report I quoted but you seemed curiously silent about Sidneys article from Dr Rory Hearne, renowned hard-left socialist. I presume that was because it’s potential bias agreed with your own views?

Anyway, in the report, the author looked at the distribution of taxes across the income ranges.

The income ranges (from 2009-2010 but prob broadly applicable to now) were as follows:

One thing that’s worth noting is that for the bottom 4 deciles, Expenditure is higher than gross income.

The report then assesses the effective tax rate on income taxes across the deciles.

As can be seen, this is progressive with higher incomes paying higher tax rates.

They then examine the indirect taxes to assess total tax take as a % of GROSS INCOMEby decile.

As can be seen, it’s broadly progressive apart from the bottom 2-3 deciles. However, these are the deciles where the annual expenditure (on which the indirect tax is calculated) is in excess of the Gross Income (which is used for the % effective tax rate calculation). I’d argue that this distorts this significantly.

Either way, that anomaly aside, its clear that the tax system from the third decile is progressive. It’s noteworthy that while taxes are included here, what isn’t included is the other way the state distributes back (i.e. welfare payments, child benefit, pensions etc). An IBEC (ooh Rocko, get your teeth stuck into that) report suggests that this impacts as follows with only the top 3 deciles contributing.

That’s the data anyway - I still stand over my original argument that the tax system in Ireland is already very progressive. You argue that it should be more progressive, fair enough, but the argument that we’re not already at a progressive level when compared against most western developed countries is propaganda.

It is noteworthy, that the SF policies to raise taxes on the higher earners would have minimal effect on the bottom 3 deciles. The SF manifesto has no policies to reduce indirect taxes such as VAT. Actually they are committing to introducing a betting tax and a sugar tax. I’d respectfully say that those taxes will impact higher on the bottom 3 deciles. On that basis is it fair to say that SF is targeting the rich and the poor?

I assumed everyone on here pays 6 figures in income tax?

You assumed sid and carryharry paid that

So you back Gerry the man of truth

on ‘here’ as in the clique

Is there anything to be said for high achievers with socialist ideals making direct sponsorship payments to the low achievers/ less capable/ misfortunes and leaving the middle man (the state) out of it.

Maybe if @bandage gave @Sidney say 400 a week, @rocko gives @ChocolateMice 350 as he only lives in cork.
Etc etc.

The likes of me is out of the equation and we are all happy?
