General Election 2016

You’re a candidate in the election?

Christ.

I think the current tax rates for 45k are fair, I think USC should probably only come into pay at 22k or thereabouts and should be scaled per every 20k after that.

All this talk about a recovery, Dublin is booming now, but look at the bigger picture - the rest of the country is nowhere near a recovery. So you have young people having to move to Dublin for work, there is an extortionate rental market in Dublin now, I would struggle to see how a young university graduate who moves up to Dublin can manage to save money while renting up here, mortgages are difficult enough to get at the minute as well. The twisted thing about it is you have landlords creaming it in here, collecting significantly more on rent each month than the typical mortgage repayment would cost. That’s just fucked up to me.

Labour would have traditionally diverged, but they’ve fucked all their beliefs as small parties tend to do in a coalition government.

Mate even if SF get in, there’s only so much you really change fiscal policy wise. Everything is signed off centrally in Europe. We’ve no power over our exchange rates, interest rates etc. We are at the mercy of the likes of Mario Draghi whether you or I like it or not.

Luckily for the FG at the moment, quantitive easing has devalued the euro so much against the Dollar and Sterling our exports have been cheaper, and this has also obviously made it more attractive for US Multinationals in paying Irish wages.

You haven’t answered the points above.

What do you think of SF saying they will keep CT at the current level as it happens?

At least Ruth Coppinger et al are honest and true about their ideology.

Innocent?

I agree with that to certain degree but I certainly feel that SF have a genuine moral obligation towards the citizens of this country that none of the three establishment parties have. As is widely reported, they only take the average industrial wage home, I think that is a starting point in showing a genuine passion to the people for social reform.

I don’t there will be that much of a change to people in the middle bracket in the this counrty - those earning 35k - 70k but there will be a big change to the way FG/Lab/FF have screwed the working guy for the benefit of the middle upper/upper society. They know the obligations they have to meet but it will be those who can afford to pay that will be made pay under a SF led government.

Right-wing economics of the type Fine Gael and Fianna Fail have peddled for decades were squarely to blame for the economic crash.

Both parties advocated and still advocate the same policies - cowing to vested interests, cutting public services, hitting the poorest in society, and redistributing wealth upwards by any means possible.

The only good thing about Fine Gael you could say is that at least they’re more honest about this than Fianna Fail.

Their claims of “economic competency” are like Gary Neville claiming he’s competent at organising a defence to stop Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

The economic policies which got Ireland into the mess it’s still in were brought in by Fianna Fail - but Fine Gael’s policies of the time were even worse, such as refunding Eircom shareholders, deeper tax cuts, and pouring just as much petrol on the fire of the property bubble as Fianna Fail by proposing to abolish stamp duty (which Sinn Fein stood against). Fine Gael let their policies be dictated by the Sunday Independent even more than Fianna Fail did.

Fine Gael has done precisely fuck all to bring about any recovery. And their health policy has been a shambles, their Minister for Justice had to resign after throwing whistleblowers under a bus, and the Irish Water debacle shows they’re just as beholden to vested interests and cronyism as Fianna Fail ever were.

Throw up some proper counter policies there @Sidney rather then using some inane fucking sporting analogies.

What are your actual left wing policies? The far left doesn’t have anyway - anti this, anti that what are you for exactly other then mass immigration?, and like it or not Gerry isn’t able to articulate Sinn Fein’s either.

Under that logic, presumably any mild or major downturn in the economy can’t be blamed on any gov so?

Close to zero. With how we are setup in the EU.

I’d give them credit for not changing the corporate tax rates, but that’s in their interests anyway.

How does Gerry Adams afford a holiday home?

It’s in Donegal.

New documents claim proof of Gerry Adams involvement as a senior IRA member | Kildare Now

@ChocolateMice

I think that’s what they call a clamping.

I honestly can’t believe this made the RTÉ news this morning. Curious timing and a non story.

How does Gerry Adams afford two homes on the average industrial wage? It’s not like Gerry has been earning all his life, in the 80s after all he told us that he was getting by on the kindness of others.

Care to answer the question on SF’s corporation tax policy when you claim others are solely in the arms of multi nationals?

Inheritance? It wouldn’t cost much to buy a home in Donegal at all.
