My argument is simple, during the boom only 28,000 people were considered long term unemployed, thatās only 1.2%ā¦ But according to some hundreds of thousands have been screwing the tax payer over and as a result a disgusting attitude towards all unemployed people has emerged.
How come youād never see a Chinese lad on the dole? Because they work for a living in Ireland. Even for a small wage.

Depends on whoās supplying the data Choco. That sounds like an extremely low figure. This crowd indicate that during that period it was nearly 1/3 of the unemployment rate. This would indicate the lowest rate during the boom would be around 58000.

What are you proposing for that 28k @ChocolateMice? You say people want jobs but have no solution to it bar voting for political parties who propose maintaining these peopleās lifestyles and taxing the people who pay for these people even more.
Thatās 28k long term unemployed in many cases come with a family of dependents, children being born into homes where the state pays for everything. An array of benefits sits on top of the standard dole - medical card, fuel allowance, rent allowance ect.
Add to that the long term spoofer unemployed, living off disability. You can add family of dependents onto that then.
Then we have the FĆS course spoofers, people being paid to go and āupskillā and werenāt arsed.
Then we get to schooling. The Irish state, as it should pays for children to be educated for free from the ages of 5-18. Third level costs are minimal in comparison to many other first world countries. In the boom years, third level fees cost fuck all. Remember when people were annoyed about 500 euro registration fees?
Thereās an excuse for being long term unemployed in a depressed economy from 08-10, but unskilled? This country poured money into peopleās skills and education, even bribing (sorry incentivising) people to go to courses and some just are not arsed. They can live off jobseekers.
After that we have the pensioners, An aging population of people who grow up expecting to be immune from any cuts. How will the State pay for this in future years along with gold plated public sector pensions? More taxes on the job creators I guess.
The idea that this country is a right wing one when the state has itās tentacles in so many sectors of our economy is just laughable.

I got a mate lined up for work about 4 years ago at the height of the recession , money was more than decent for a start & would have improved quickly. He reasoned the 2 issues below were good reasons to decline the offer.
- driving to work would mean paying for fuel
- having to pay for / make a lunch
I abhor that kind of attitude. I came from a poor family, was never handed fuck all. Got working part time from the age of 12 to fund what i fancied. I hated school, but got by. I took on full time employment after finishing exams on shit money & worked another wknd job to get by.
Fuck off with yourself calling out my opinions. By all means fight for the rights of those who canāt help themselves, but spare me the bleeding hearts stories for cunts who neither have the will or sheer dignity to help themselves.
