another billion down the drain.

True Denmark does not have a minimum wage and because of unions average payment is higher . They do pay income tax on lower income thresholds than here though.

For countries with a minimum wage we are amongst highest

Why is that do you think? What’s your take home pay after a 40 hour week on minimum wage? About 360? What’s the average rent around the country? Gas/lecky? Food… If anything, the current minimum wage isbt near enough

The trusty Deloitte tax calculator says 357 net weekly. Good guess.

If it was double what do you think that would do to price of rent, food, electricity etc

Do you think they would all be the same or less?

How competitive would the economy be then?

You are not that stupid.

Roughly the same as weekly unemployment with one dependent adult.

did I say double it up? You were making out like people on minimum wage have caught a massive break and should be grateful. A living wage is something we should be aiming for.

That is your entire evenings posting to a tee, read it back

I don’t have to read anything …you went off on one about sky boxes and holidays to Lanzarote… Life long dolers being the scourge of society… You’ve done nothing to back any of this up.

We are aiming for that. We are already amongst highest in EU. By any metrics ireland is one of the best places in the world to live.

Done nothing? Its an opinion. Youve accused me of a blanket opinion on a whole class, which was horseshit, now you’re just pretending you didn’t. Godhelpus

You’re approaching unhealthy levels with this engagement.

I’ve never said other wise…but when people are spending over 60% of their income on rent we also have very serious issues. The cost of living is off the charts and wages haven’t moved as fast to meet it. It’s grand saying we’ve a great minimum wage… But many on that cant afford trips to the doctor or dentist and can survive if no curve balls are thrown their way.

He could simply thank the board for what irish society has handed him but instead rails against imaginary oppression. SAD

Jesus I nearly miss Sid.

I’ve been in myself with a trip to A & E & have had relations in there too and I can only say the service & staff were excellent.

Do you think every single person using the service spends a week in a corridor?

I’m not railing against the state… I just don’t live with my head in the sand like you and others. I believe in community and standing up for people that need help. You’d rather have a bogey man to blame as the alternative might mean having to challenge the staus quo.

It’s become expensive for sure. That’s the by product of a very strong economy and large wage growth often in double income couples. It’s also driven by high rents, rates, insurance, costs of doing business.

As against that we were facing into a hard Brexit and the shock that would have dealt to the economy.

We need to be careful not to become uncompetitive again like happened in 2007 and 2008 when wage costs exploded including public sector pay along with property prices.

There are no easy answers but hammering the working middle classes with tax increases when they pay for everything else is not the answer.

Politicians are short term in their thinking - we are paying price now for the cuts in infrastructure spending during last crash but that was done to shore up current spending as the government wouldn’t have survived Huge cuts to social welfare and public pay so the hidden cuts were made to capital spending. Part of the problem is coalition governments supported by independents means we rarely get a visionary government or minister who would survive long enough to implement and deliver a new health care system.

When 18 per cent of the electorate are voting for independent and local or single issue candidates it’s a clue as to why we have national issues. Governments can only tinker around edges of health or housing as there is no mandate to make the changes that would make a difference and not just in case of health end up in healthcare salary inflation.

One could argue they’re in disarray.
They’re running a chap in Tipperary who lost his Council seat in the last Election.

Again pretending that i said that and arguing against that not what i wrote. Repeatedly. Hopeless arguments.
