General Election 2020 Part 2

How many accidents on the M7 last year?

This motorway would have absolute fuck all use to you if you were going to Kerry

In fairness even if the money was there this proposed motorway was 3 or 4 years off.

Covid 19 has unfortunately pushed it out further again I would say in terms of a lack of money being available for capital expenditure. No disputing its a horrific road, one of the worst in the country for road deaths.

Saying that, I don’t think the Greens can be blamed here at all to be honest though.

If Cork Lk was built then LK Mallow Killarney prob quickest route

The other thing here is the economic benefits of the proposed motorway, would same be to the detriment of Limerick city - ie make us a satelite town to Cork city in terms of further capital expenditure etc. People in Waterford allude to that. I’m not sure myself, but its probably worth considering along with the very negligable impact the motorway to Galway has had on Limerick since that came on the scene.

We probably would be better off exploring faster rail at this stage would be my view.

Is the population really there for a fully connected rail network let alone a high speed one. I’d be all for it in theory but just don’t see how the numbers would come close to making it any way cost effective.

You clown

This isn’t about the green party. This is about the planet and making Ireland a better place to be

Possibly not, but I’d like to see the numbers all the same. Its an idea worth exploring at least.

The Dublin to cork line could be high speed and you could just change in limerick junction as you do now. Or else run it through limerick altogether. Cork Limerick Dublin Belfast on a high speed line would be the business. Maybe a stop in Portlaoise or something as well

Money spent on public transport goes further than money spent on roads

I’d be happy enough with rail if I thought there was a snowball chance in hell of it happening

Buses use roads too though

Yes. And the greens got bus connects for cork and limerick

But would we not be better served looking at commuter rail and linking satellite towns to cities as much as intercity/cross country rail links.

The likes of Nenagh, Adare, Charleville and Shannon connecting to Limerick with stops on each line.

The Busconnect for Cork was commited to in 2018.

With FFG

The infrastructure in terms of tracks is already there for most of that too. Can’t see it happening though sadly.

Nobody uses the trains now because it’s cheaper to drive.

Yes we need cheaper public transport cc @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy

Fucking hilarious. FFG haven’t done a tap towards a Cork limerick motorway in 30 years but before the Greens even get into power it’s all their fault. Comedy gold from the angry rooral 3/6 th city folk.
