Do FG want to stay in though? Being a supporting party in Ireland is nearly always a poisoned chalice. They were the third biggest party and lost a shit load of seats. Go back into government as a supporting role will only reduce that further. Stay on the wings, be the opposition and chances are their time in power may be looked upon more favourably with hindsight in a few years. The people have clearly spoken and voted for CHANGE. Fine Gael going back in will cost them more votes in the next election.
Itâs the same for FF really ---- If they go in with SF and it works out, if wont be FF getting the praise for it⊠Does he grow the beast he so long tried to kill?
Yeah, theyâre banking on SFâs economic policies to be unworkable when it comes to budget time. Itâll result in another election, but I still feel that the electorate wonât forgive FFG for it.
I think MM is arrogant enough and stubborn enough to do it and get his power. Recent history has shown that the supporting party usually gets the blame if it goes wrong. If it goes well, FF can spin it well enough to feather their own nest. Plus if it goes well, itâs a long time before the next election and despite SF doing so well this time, some of their candidates will be found out if there for a long duration. It well undoubtedly help the very good ones they have to be in the spotlight, but it will kill off the ones voted in under the âCHANGEâ vote. It gives them time to have credible alternatives for another vote too though and should things go well, could kill off FG even further. Could see the rise in the lower parties next time around.
