General Election 2020 Part 2

Why would they back up FF? They seem determined to stay out. Winter is coming.

Who knows ā€¦ they spent weeks telling us itā€™s only half time in Brexit tho, so their own words might come back on themā€¦ They could always pull the plug on Martin when things arent working and look to seize back a lot of the middle voteā€¦ itā€™s not as if they are a million miles behind SF/FF in stats or seats.

ok Iā€™ll ask again. Is there a time limit or what? Who calls second election if gov canā€™t be formed?

You canā€™t play senior hurling with knives or spoons. Well, perhaps knives in the Galway seenur horling champinchip.

Dail commences next week.

Charge!

There is no law saying thereā€™s a certain time limit. Mickey D will have to call it again if no party can find an agreement but they could go round and round for months if nessecary. Leo is still in charge until a new Government is formed

Interesting Irish Times podcast on this during the week. Basically until a new Taoiseach is elected, only Leo can call a second election.

I personally think FG would be mad to go in with FF - it would just leave the door open for SF to make even bigger gains.

@anon67715551 why did FF try to put an end to the PR system in the 60s

If FFG were to go in together,I wonder would they change anything. People want change. Would they do things differently? What would the mood of the public be?

Im a landlord and despite the rent I charge being well below market rate it still comfortably covers my mortgage. The surplus probably just about fails to cover my tax bill and management fee but for a very small net loss every year I will have an asset worth around 250k in approx 20 years time.
Is there a downside Iā€™m missing?

To stop people electing the likes of SF. If theyā€™d only listened

Ah lads would be fierce confused. SF would have won the election, yet wouldnt be in power. I could see water charge type protests on the streets.

not in your case
but my rent post tax dosent come close

PS love the ā€œIm a Landlordā€ opening ā€¦ (hastag gaffs)

Itā€™s a huge risk for them. If they cobble something together they have to solve the housing and health crises quickly as we know SF are going to do this if they enter government. However, keeping SF out of government and then failing at such efforts would result in a SF majority government for the next generation.

Fianna Fail tried to put an end to PR and tried to put an end to the election count process through the introduction of electronic voting machines. Anybody who tries to destroy the Irish election count, not once but twice, is not to be trusted.

I think there is a sizeable bunch of TDs within FF and FG who still are so arrogant and out of touch that they donā€™t know how to be strategic.

If a government is formed without SF I would predict protests on the streets. And no one does protests like SF.

I actually thought about them during the election.

Still stored away, running up a significant chunk of costs no doubt.

FF are being extremely short sighted here youā€™d feel. They are appeasing the hardcore FFers at the expense of everyone else, and the hard core of FF is dying off at a rate of knots.

No, they were sold off for a few pence a couple of years ago
