The SPL have confirmed that Rangers will not be included in the fixture list for the new season which is being announced tomorrow morning. Instead “Club 12” will be included.
How likely is it that New Rangers will be competing in the premier league?
I think it’s very unlikely. They need 8 votes in their favour from the 12 member clubs and, quite ridiculously, ‘new’ huns can vote for themselves and are considered part of the 12 for the moment. So they need the support of 7 of the other 11 clubs but I can’t see them getting it. Celtic and Aberdeen will definitely vote against it and other clubs’ fans will find it unacceptable if their chairman give the huns a reprieve judging by online polls and statements by various supporters’ clubs.
The consensus seems to be that fans of other clubs don’t want sporting integrity to be overridden by financial considerations. They argue that the benefit of the huns remaining in the top flight in terms of TV rights and ticket sales will be offset by their own fans boycotting their own stadia.
But there’s now stories of the SPL and SFA merging and an SPL2 being created which may see the huns only drop one division to a new SPL2 rather than going down to SFL3.
Celtic open at home to Aberdeen and there’s a festive fixture away to Club 12 in there.
I notice Celtic and Club 12 are scheduled to play at home on the same day only once. Dundee United and Club 12 are due to play at home on the same day several times.
We also have trips to the highlands to Dingwall and Inverness either side of our last Champions League qualifier.
There’s a winter break in January too.
In other news, the new huns have formally applied to the SPL to take the place of old huns in the league. So that voting scenario will arise now.
1-1 in the Edinburgh derby at half time. A howler by Alan Maybury against his former club allowed Lee Driver to open the scoring for Hearts but Leigh Griffiths has equalised just on half time. Hibs haven’t beaten Hearts in 3 years and come into this game on the back of getting destroyed by them in the cup final last season. That goal should give them the belief to push on in the second half.
hopefully
Are you watching this Bandage? How has Templeton played for Hearts?
He’s been fairly lively and has been constantly chopped down when running with it. He’s playing on the left wing and Irishman Gary Deegan keeps coming over from centre midfield to upend him.
I really rate Templeton and I think he would be a good signing for us, he’s very sprightly and direct and would help tackle the stagnant tempo that has crept into our game over the past season. I also think Mackay-Steven would help in this regard.
Dundee derby live on Sky Sports 4 from a sun-drenched and sold out Tannadice. Gary Mackay-Steven is out with an injury and may need an operation but Russell is playing. A few ex-Celts on show for Dundee such as Ryan Conroy, Gary Irvine and Rab Fucking Douglas, who’s just been at fault for the opening goal. Came flapping out and missed a freekick allowing Gavin Gunning to head home.
Russell has just scored a sensational goal and it’s 3-0 now. His first goal was very jammy - he was played in and his scuffed shot was going across the goal and wide but a defender sliding in diverted it past Douglas. But that second goal was sublime. I think Russell and Mackay-Steven are both better than Templeton.
Hearts 17 year old defender Callum Paterson looks like a promising player.
Celtic end the day top of the table after Dundee United were surprisingly beaten 3-1 at Kilmarnock. Ex Sligo Rovers player Eoin Doyle scored for Hibs in their victory against St Johnstone.
Any of you lads know much about Matthew Kennedy of Kilmarnock? Apparently Everton look likely to sign him, he’s a 17 year old winger. I was also very impressed with Hearts 17 year old defender Callum Paterson when Hearts played Liverpool last week. Some very good young players coming through the SPL now.

Hibs have sacked their stadium announcer after he poked fun at Hearts current difficulties by playing The Beatles song, Taxman over the tannoy at half time on Sunday.
A tad harsh
Any thoughts on the proposed new league set up, bhoys?
Split into 3 leagues of 12 (Premier), 12 (Championship) and 18 (National) to replace the existing 4-league set up.
The top 2 leagues would further split into a top 8, middle 8 and bottom 8 near the end of the season.
What purpose does the split serve? The current split is idiotic and was only there in the first place so they could have another derby in a twelve man league. The bottom division having 18 teams does sound like a good move though. The SPL should go back to 10 teams.

I have no thoughts on the matter. Winter break pleases me but that’s here now anyway.
Why are rangers so upset about these plans?
