Just checked setlist.fm there and apparently they did 34 the first night in Galway. Which surprised me. I thought it might have been about 25.
They do 30 minimum every time. Short songs,no talking to the audience, no pause for applause, just rattle through them. They play the favourites and some new singles and then different songs from the back catalogue every time, different show every time I’ve seen them. A brilliant live band. Also their material from recent years is great. They’re just fucking great.
Wayne Coyne came out wrapped in a Galway flag and proceeded to tell the audience how he had been told of the curse. Crowd horrified ‘no no no’
Amazing gig as always
They don’t have a set list going into a gig. They have rehearsed all their songs so Black Francis decides on the spot what to play,
I can’t agree that their recent stuff is great, certainly when you compare it with their earlier stuff. A few good songs here and there but that’s what happens with bands after a while.
I went to see them in London in 2004. It was great but I drew a line under them after that. Barely listened to them over past two decades. Had a blast off Bossanova there last year and really dug it. Heard one or two newer tunes that I wasn’t too bothered with at all.
Didn’t know that. If so that’s class in fairness. Ok maybe great is overstating it but certainly a few great tunes, most comparable bands aren’t producing anything but dirge at this stage of their careers, pixies never lost the knack of catchy tunes. One of the few bands that I listened to as a teenager that I still listen to regularly.
Trompe Le Mondrian is currently my favourite Pixies album. Jam packed with alternative catchy songs.
@farmerinthecity - Bruce Springsteen is self indulgent with his hours long sets
@farmerinthecity - The Pixies playing 32 song in a set is fair impressive.
It’s a fair cop.
Clannad.
Bucket list and then some. Hypnotic.
Moya Brennan is amazing. They’re all amazing. I’ve had five pints in Lonergans and I feel emotional and I’m listening to Robin Hood right now.
Saw them in Ballisodare 80/81, fucking incredible gig
Great to see Michael Lowry has got the fine weather again for the Cut Loose Country Music festival in Holycross today.
I really dont know how the great man does it.
Any haunty ones at it?
While not a big fan of any of the bands, the Friday doesn’t look bad and €40 isn’t too bad for 3 bands, and you’d have a good auld night of it back in North Kerry.
Waterboys, The Stunning, Power of Dreams.
It was meant to be something else. Absolutely huge crowd. They came from all over the country.
I’d say they must make north of €100k in profit off one day. An extraordinary achievement for a rural GAA Club in Mid Tipperary. Mick Lowry is no ordinary man though.
