Some exercises to warm up
WARMING UP TO BETTER GOLF
I know that it is a common misconception among amateur golfers that their warm-up consists of playing it easy over the first three holes then putting full effort into the next fifteen. This begs the question… How often do you make a birdie or even a par on the first hole?
here is a couple of warming up techniques for before and after your round which will help you to stay more flexible throughout the season. If you dont play regularly, it is even more of a reason for you to warm up.
ARM CIRCLES
Raise your arms out full stretch and, starting from your hands, move them in a circular motion increasing up the arm gradually. Do these for about fifteen seconds then change direction.
This will increase blood flow to your arms and shoulders, and will help to warm up the muscles needed for a full swing.
OVERHEAD EXTENSION
Hold a club at the head and the grip and raise it above your head. Keeping your arms straight, bring the club down to your legs and raise it back up again. Repeat this for about fifteen seconds.
This will stretch the shoulder and back muscles necessary for the top of your swing and increases your swing range on the backswing and follow through.
GOLF ROTATIONS
Hold a club at the head and grip and place it behind your neck. Keeping your lower body stable, swing your top body through full swings as if you are playing golf and repeat this ten times back and through.
This will stretch the core muscles and help you to relax. It will also prepare the proper sequence of your swing and can help you to swing more confidently on the first tee.
First hole in my club is Index 18 so you have to par it to start well. Par 5 and straight forward enough but green can be tricky. Good point tiger. For bigger comps it’s good to get down there a good hour before hand and spend a bit of time on the range if there is one. Do a bit of putting too just to get a feel for it. Usually though you’d be raising dust in the carpark, dashing around to the boot to get your gear together and arriving on the teebox out of breath. Then you wonder why you can’t bomb it straight down the middle with your first drive…
thats it locke. warming up makes a big difference. i had a hour to kill before my round last week so i did a bit of practise and warm up and was 1under for the first 5 so it goes to show it does make a difference. altho I have it in my head that when I birdie the first its a sign of a bad day…everything always goes wrong after it! last week was good tho.
Going to knock a few down the driving range at lunch. First time in a long time. Have the society’s capt prize on Saturday 2 weeks so I have to get in shape for it. 4th in the GOTY but the top two are miles ahead, can’t be catched. Capt prize would be a nice one to win in a largely crap year for me; haven’t shot over 40pts at all and not getting out playing either much in the last couple of months.
TaylorMade have launched two new drivers for 2009. The first driver is the latest addition to the r7 family, the r7 Limited. Following in the footsteps of the CGB Max Driver, the r7 Limited features three interchangeable weight ports and the triangular head shape for faster swing speeds. The second driver is the new Burner Driver, which has also followed in the previous models footsteps by continuing with the Dual Crown Technology

what you playing off locke?
15.4. I should be 16 but I didn’t hand in the last few cards. Pride I guess. Last few rounds I’ve had nothing but 90’s and nearly topped the tonne with one round. Just don’t have the time to get out.
You?

Quality player so. Have you always played since you were younger or did you take it up relatively recently?
To keep at that grade you’d have to be playing a round at least once a week. Practicing twice a week too. Big commitment. But then you could be just naturally talented. Hey, want in on a flagging golfboard?? Need some injection into it, shame on all of you for not contributing more…
If anyone is looking for a new set of any clubs, send me a pm. I do requests. Might take a few weeks though.
