Golf Thread

Just signed up aswell there locke.

Will contribute soon

Locke, get in contact with these lads, http://www.blacknight.com/ , I’ve dealt with them before and they seem sound enough. The owner even had a run in with Liam Cahill over spamming so he must be a decent fella!

Locke, you should go about setting up a Irish Golf Online Wiki section over on your site in a similar vein to TFK Wiki. Maybe tipptops can log on over there and plot the history of TFK and some other random websites on it?

is that the michele lad that cahill was giving abuse to over his name? afr is spamming scum or something?

wouldnt know fook all about golf lockes, but will have some more spare time during the weeks so might take up a bit of it to get thru the boredom. will be on for tips then!

yep, he’d be outspoken enough at the best of times but I think he went to town on cahill for his constant spamming advertising afr in the early days.

I was trying to get onto the blacknight website but it kept crashing my Internet Explorer. I’ll try again later. Thanks for the advise lads.

Looks to be a exciting week at Valderrama, personally I think Sergio can win this. He played some amazing stuff last week in Spain.

Contenders for the Volvo Masters
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12176_4422538,00.html

Darren Clarke: A two-time winner on Tour this year. The Ulsterman will hope to end the season in style, although he has never finished inside the top six at Valderrama.

Sergio Garcia: A great record in the Volvo Masters - albeit without a victory. Three-times a runner-up and only once lower than seventh in seven previous visits. Won last week on his home course.

Padraig Harrington: Is starting to feel the strain of a long season and may struggle to summon up the energy required to produce a top-two finish on the Costa del Sol this weekend. And anything lower than second place would not be enough for him to overtake Karlsson. His highest finish at Valderrama was second two years ago.

Robert Karlsson: The first Swede to win on the European Tour was Ove Sellberg in 1986. Now, 22 years later, Karlsson is hoping to become the first professional from his country to end the season as European No 1. His last three starts read: Won-Won-T3.

Ian Poulter: Winner of the Volvo Masters in 2004 and a top-10 finisher on his last five starts in this tournament.

Lee Westwood: Will have to win this week to stand any chance of overhauling Karlsson. His best Valderrama finish is second.

Sergio won again at the HSBC champions in China. He birdied the second play off hole to defeat Oliver Wilson. Delighted for sergio he seems to have got his confidence back on track and is now ranked world no 2.

A great week for the Irish in South Africa, Gareth Maybin whos new to the european tour was in contention for his first victory only to be beaten in a play off, Rory McIlroy qualified for the US Masters next year, Damien McGrane and Gary Murphy were well up the leaderboard aswell.

Sickened when I saw a headline in the mirror the other day ‘DUBLINER McGrane in early contention’ Damien is a Meathman also with Wexford roots where he was the pro up until a few years ago.

My predictions for the majors this year are as follows;

Masters- Anthony Kim
US Open- Padraig Harrington
British Open- Robert Karlsson
PGA Championship- Tiger Woods

Colin ‘man boobs’ Montgomery has been named as the Ryder Cup captain for 2010

Colin Montgomerie has been named as captain of the Europe team for the 2010 Ryder Cup at Wales’ Celtic Manor.

The 45-year-old, an eight-time Ryder Cup veteran, was one of two leading contenders for the role along with 2008 vice-captain Jose Maria Olazabal.

“This is obviously one of my proudest moments,” said the Scot.

“It is a huge responsibility having lost the last Ryder Cup. It is important we do everything we can to claim back the Ryder Cup in 2010.”

Sandy Lyle and 2006 captain Ian Woosnam were also believed to be in the running to take the captaincy.

Montgomerie, who was said to be keen to take on the role for the 2014 event in his native Scotland, suggested he would like Olazabal to be part of his support staff.

“I have an understanding and respect for Jose and I’m sure he will be part of my team at Celtic Manor,” he added. I will not in any way, shape or form come close to qualifying for the team.

Montgomerie said players, including Europe’s Ryder Cup tournament committee chairman Thomas Bjorn, had influenced his thinking.

“I’ve been listening and taking heed of what they’ve been saying,” he added.

“It just seems the time is right for me to take the helm here and be captain.”

The Glasgow-born golfer ruled out any prospect of being a playing captain next year.

“All the points I earn as a player for the Ryder Cup will be nullified,” he said.

“I will not in any way, shape or form come close to qualifying for the team. I am captain and very proud and honoured.”

However, he did add that if he continues to play he would fight for a place in the 2012 team.

The eight-time winner of the European Order of Merit will go up against Corey Pavin, who in December was named as the United States captain for the 2010 event. 606: DEBATE
What do you think of Monty’s appointment?

In his eight Ryder Cups as a player he helped Europe to victory on five occasions.

He has never lost a singles match and has a match record of 20 wins, nine draws and seven losses - giving him a total points score of 23.5, only 1.5 points behind the all-time record held by Nick Faldo.

Despite the impressive statistics, Montgomerie was not one of 2008 captain Faldo’s wildcards for the Valhalla showdown, which Europe lost.

The Scot will be a popular choice in Wales, having supported the Celtic Manor Wales Open for several years, while also designing a course at the resort for owner Sir Terry Matthews.

nice signature there puke!

No point holding back Gman…Have the feeling it is between him, art and me for it so might as well try and get a bit of a campaign going for NCC

Hate Monty with a passion, Say he’l do a better job than Faldo anyway. Judging By the way the media were goin on I tought Woosnam would get it…again.

May I also point out, Wexford men represented Ireland last week and won the Home Nations Chmpship. Hip Hip Hoarray.

Rory McIlroy wins the Dubai Classic. This lad is still 19 and its frightening to think what he could achieve. He has it all.

Fair fooks to him, he needed a win after shitting himself on the final few holes in a couple of tournaments recently. Almost bottled it again today but had a great up and down on 18 to win. Interviewer on Sky said he was up to 15 in the world rankings now.

Some achievement in fairness to em, hes been knocking on the door these past few weeks. He’s well able to get inside the top 10 by the end of the year.

Delighted for Rory. I have connections with one of his sponsors and have followed McIlroy a few times in tournaments.

And still so young! Mark O’Meara said he hits the ball better than Tiger Woods did at his age. Hope he keeps his head and develops onto the superstar he has the potential of being.

Officially 16 in the world ranking today, better than McGinley ever achieved and only a few places off Darren Clarkes career best (10 i think?).

He walks like Monty though, he could do with sorting that out.
