That’s 10
It’s 9. It’s actually 10 now, I forgot that I once played a course I can’t remember the name of near Barna, the one on the road over to Moycullen, I played it the Friday evening of the weekend Oasis played at Knebworth in 1996.
I played Corballis the Saturday afternoon of the Open Championship the time Jean van de Velde blew it. And I played like Jean, as I usually did.
Anyone ever play Castletroy, if so, thoughts?
They do be, its part of the forest park which is a fine spot itself. Ballyconneely is a fine looking spot too. Play galway bay if you can its in great nick now.
Boring. Long time since I played there but can’t imagine it improved much.
I must say, I thought the same. Immaculate, in great nick. Greens lovely, but boring, featureless and samey
Fine underrated course, played it while on a break years ago while on a short stay in Castlemartyr.
Went off and played a Rd by myself and enjoyed it immensely. Played a grand Rd & no one with me to see me hit it well for a change.
I haven’t played it in 20+ years I know they have done work on it since, one lovely par 3 from an elevated tee.
Yeah, 14th in Dundrum should be easy but a stones of a green to hit as it’s small & so undulating.
The 8th is another fine hole, need to keep drive left or getting over that tree is tough, another test of a green too.
Dundrum is a very tough but fair test of a course. They just need to up standards with bunkers & greens a bit though.
As a young lad I played a lot of golf, was a member of Fermoy as that was where the old fella played, got the handicap down to around 12 when I was about 17.
Myself and a buddy used to cycle over to Mahon at sunup and play two rounds before anybody there turned up for work in the summertime,
We often hit thirty or forty balls off the tee in the downhill 4th(used to be the 2nd back then) in an attempt to get a hole in one, love that hole, never got the ace
Ye must have been running between shots to get 2 rounds in that quickly
It’s great to be in a golf course really early when no one else around
Mahon is a grand little spot as well for the price of it. A great amenity
Leopardstown has to be worst in the country?
It would have great potential if it was in private hands. Some nice little holes there alright especially theo ones that run by the river and around the underpass.
It’s too short for many holes and there’s really fuck all room to lengthen them, could do with a lot of traps and proper rough to make up for it, but I used to love it, the 11th (used to be the 9th) involves a carry across ‘the bog’, can’t be more than 160 metres but it was a daunting proposition back in the day,
On a good day I’d shoot low to mid70s down there whereas I’d never beat 80 in my home club
You must be a very good golfer.
I played almost every day in the summer as a young fella, lots of kids did around us with a municipal course on our doorstep, I was only alright
That’s a serious score still down there. yeah there is really not much room to lengthen it. There are a couple of tricky par 3s there though. Last hole and maybe the 8th or 9th.
There is a par 5 which has loads of rushes but you have to hit 2 high irons are a wedge to play the hole. The 5th is a great little hole playing up to the elevated green and trying to get the right angle in.
