I find sports books, particularly biographies, dull as dishwater.
That’s a no on Shankly.

Read the Munichs. Thought it was a brilliant book. Also read the one about Shankly - also brilliant. The Damned United is also top class but see if you can get the original version before a Johnny Giles lawsuit neutered it.
GB84 about the miners strike is a very confusing read.

They’re not really biographies more written like novels. The two I’ve read anyway

I read the first one. Very good alright. Same fella wrote a good one about Ferguson and united too. The season he was completely written off and came back to beat mourinho.

Tried and failed to read GB84 twice, just couldn’t get into it at all.
Trying to get back into reading as it’s something I’ve woefully neglected lately. Very much enjoying Project Hail Mary.

Just finished John Boynes ‘Elements’ which is a compilation of the 4 Novellas, sometimes gripping but I wouldn’t recommend it

It is my understanding that the book was factually way off hence Giles’s opposition.
Or was it a historical fiction type book?
I read one of those, the first one I think, I can’t warm to John Boyne at all.
It’s a work of fiction based on a factual event. It was in no way meant to be an accurate depiction of Clough’s time there. A novel dramatising what happened during that stint.

I flew through it and really enjoyed it.
Way too much science in it though, for me anyway, I found myself skimming half pages here and there as he explained the science and theory behind his plans.
Overall though very readable.
Movie was good too and I thought they did a remarkable job telling the story.

This is a good read , his body was abused from a very early age . Outside of the coke and hooch, he was getting 6 or 7 injections just to set foot on the pitch for Napoli. They used to say Kieran Fallon had a gift for attracting the wrong type of people who would end up gettimg him in trouble , Maradona definitely was the same .
I’m away on holidays and brought no book.
I picked up a James Patterson book at the free book swap at reception. One of his Alex Cross novels. Not bad, reminded me of a Bourne movie. That kind of thing.
You’d fly through it and each chapter is about 5 pages max so you can pick it up and put it down easily enough.
Finished Alex Cross, so went back to reception and picked up another.
Flashlight by Susan Choi. Says on the front it was shortlisted for the Booker prize in 2025. 40 pages in and this is a different kettle of fish. Hard to comment on it yet.
Just finished the glass hotel by Hilary st john mandel (great name). Her other books I’ve read are more sci fi but this one wasn’t, she’s a gorgeous writer, jumps forwards and backwards in time and between characters and links them and events in their lives up in clever ways. Her books have a dreamlike quality to them.
