I know it’s probably 30 years old but I just finished Hotel New Hampshire by John Irvine. Really enjoyable. Irvine is a great bit of stuff
The cider house rules & The world according to Garp are two really good books.

Yeah. I have read both and they are excellent. I think I’ve read them all now apart from A prayer for Owen Meaney
He’s probably tried that already.
Derek’s will be a best seller.
No narrator would do Derek justice
Reading Skippy Dies at the moment. Read it a couple of years ago and loved it and loving it all over again. A bit of a mad book in many ways but all the better for it.

Brilliant. I think it’s divided into 3 books inside and was even sold like that in some versions.
The way it captures the madness of being a teenage boy is superb and just the whole style about it.
Just bought this after the following recommendations from one of my best English friends with whom I went to see paddy considine last year.:

Will do. I’ll start it this week. I packed the boxing one in as it was really poor. It read like a feature length article written for the examiner and syndicated by Joe. Ie.
