Good to know you’re alright. Did you actually catch covid or was it just finally realising there are better things in life than tfk?
The former. Led to the latter
I just finished The Whereabouts of Eneas McNulty, a sad and beautiful book. Sebastian Barry is a genius.
Ya, I love his books, all of them. A long long way and the secret scripture are highlights though.
I’m listening to No country for old men in Audible, fuckit it’s a superb book
I haven’t read either of those but I might go for them next.
If you like no country then be sure to get the first two of McCarthy’s trilogy… All the pretty horses & The crossing.
The early chapters of The crossing which involve taking a wolf to Mexico are exceptional. I must go read it again.
I’ve read all those years ago, I’ve read no country for old men before as well but I have it forgotten
I’ve to read more McCarthy. Read Blood Meridian during the last lockdown. Monster of a book.
Blood meridian is particularly mad, being based on some actual events.
I only discovered he has translations for the sections in Spanish after I read the books.
I realised I couldn’t recall exactly what the ending was/meant and did some googling on it just now. There seem to be various theories. It’s a mental ending now that I think about.
It’s mental without any thinking about it.
I’m my brief review there there were at least three or four different theories. None of them were my reading of it.
I didn’t know what to make of the judge character. Overall I thought he took from the book, and so I’ve clearly missed the point of it somewhere. He was so unreal and inhuman, and so if he was in that world the rest of it couldn’t be truly real, that lessened the horror of it for me.
This is going to be stuck in my head for another while now.
Not often I look forward to a book as much as this, didn’t even know it was out but I saw it in Easons just now, new short story collection
I’m not a fan of his novels TBH but I think he’s a master of the short story
Are the bookshops open?
Easons is anyway, local bookshops doing delivery or click and collect,
Support Irish
Kim Gordon “Girl in a Band”
“Patria / Homeland” by Fernando Arembeou.
Series is cracking too on HBO, pretty faithful to the book.
Columbine is a fantastic book about a sickening event. The story is brilliantly told here
I’ve got around to this in recent days, really good book.
I’ve read the first three stories from the new Kevin Barry book, absolutely outstanding, just brilliant
