This Gangster Squad thing has gotten not-so-great reviews. My cousin was on Facebook yesterday moaning that Django Unchained doesn’t live up to the hype. This is all very disappointing.
I’ll probably give Django a chance even though I dislike most Tarantino films and hate the hype surrounding the shite he churns out. Can’t believe the spoof merchant has so many fans. Pulp fiction is decent to be fair.
What wore me a bit was that almost every line is sung. I know that’s what musicals are but it gives you very little break. Thought there would be some ordinary dialogue aswell. That said it looked beautiful and was well worth a watch.
Saw The Hobbit yesterday. I enjoyed it and thought it was better than the reviews made it out to be. If you liked the Lord of the Rings then you’ll probably also like this as it’s pretty much the same filming style, music, effects etc.
I did accidentally end up at a subtitled screening though which did get quite annoying quite quickly
The Hobbit is grand but they will drag the arse out of it over three films. Two would have been more than enough but obviously money talks.
Yeah, the first film could do with a tighter edit and I’d imagine the whole thing could have been done in one film. It’s a small mercy that he’s not doing the Lord of the Rings now, it would turn into a 9 film saga.
I’m the opposite. I love everything he’s done thus far save for the first installment of Kill Bill. The opening scene of Inglorious Basterds with Christoph Waltz and the farmer is one of the best scenes ever filmed. I’ll go to Django anyway, even just to hear the glorious sounds of Ennio Morricone over the cinema sound system.
If you liked Sin City, which I loved, you will like Gangster Squad. Lots of graphic violence and a zippy enough script with an excellent cast. There are a few cheesy enough bits but overall I found it very entertaining-it won’t be winning the Palm D’Or this year or anything like it.
His theme for Duck You Sucker!/Giu La Testa is the greatest piece of music ever recorded, in my not very humble opinion. I’d like it reproduced with full orchestra and opera singer at my funeral.
Jesus I watched Shooter the other night, awful shite.

“Decent”?? It was one of if not THE movie which best defines 90s film.
+1
+1 to all that. I don’t care if he rips off foreign movies, I want to be entertained for my money and he nearly always delivers. I also love that opening scene in the Bastards, only watched it the other night, top class acting and dialogue!
I thoroughly disliked kill bill, both parts. Inglorious was a shambles. That opening scene was good but lost it’s impact by being far too long and the rest of the film was a meandering mess with shameless copying and pasting of characters, scenes and dialogue from classic ww2 movies like where eagles dare.
Without doubt the most overrated and self-indulgent filmmaker ever. I guess you either love or hate him.
I neither love nor hate him. I judge his films. Some I like, some I don’t.
I really don’t think that’s true. It’s hardly The Godfather but it contains a tremendous amount of entertaining scenes. The bit with the BearJew, Donny and his baseball bit, the bit where Pitt etc attempt to pass themselves off as Italians, the bit where the Jewhunter is recommending the dessert option, the bit in the bar where Fassbender’s fake German accent gets found out and the subsequent shoot-out. Fabulous stuff and endlessly watchable.
Mark Wahlberg? Very good film.
I liked Inglorious, thought it was very well put together and Pitt was excellent. Haven Seven Psychopaths downloaded and will be watching it later.
Pulp Fiction is phenomenal, Reservoir Dogs is superb, Jackie Brown and Inglorious Bastards are very very good. I wasn’t that gone on the Kill Bill’s if I’m honest.
I saw Pulp Fiction in the Light House in Smithfield last week. Absolutely sensational on the big screen and the music blasting out through the sound system made for an unforgettable cinema experience. Great atmosphere there too, you’d forget how ridiculously insane and funny some of the scenes are. It is on again this week out in Liffey Valley.
Reservoir Dogs is on tomorrow night in the Cineworld on Parnell St.
Didn’t think Jackie Brown was great myself. Pulp and Dogs are great films.
Agree with that. Couldn’t take to Jackie Brown. Didn’t think much of the Kill Bills either. Pulp Fiction is a work of genius though. Reservoir dogs was excellent too.
