Good Fillums

I had to turn that one off after 15 minutes. A ridiculously bad film.

They need to make a proper Irish gangster movie. The Irish were far more brutal than any other mob and there was none of this loyalty bollox that the wops bang on about. It was dog eat dog.

Would The Departed not count as one?

A bit. It’s fairly glammed up and the mob is only used as a back drop to Di caprio and Matt Damon.

A follow up to gangs of New York would be great. The Irish ruled the City for a few generations, through brute force and complete corruption. We need to be reminded how great a people we are through glorified violence. I mean, Scotland has created a whole separatist movement on the back of Braveheart. We need more positive Irish movies…

I hated gangs of new York. Very shit movie.

Mel Gibson has fought the British in Scotland and America -maybe we could get him to make a movie about one of the Irish rebellions?

I really liked Gangs of New York.

Scorsese is supposed to be making a movie called The Irishman with De Niro, Pacino and Pesci about a mobster called Frank Sheeran. Could be amazing if it ever happens.

I also enjoyed it, particularly second time around. It’s also accurate enough historically except it didn’t show enough killing of black people by Irish gangs.

Sorted

I believe there is currently a film biopic being made of the life and times of James Connolly, the magnificent Peter Mullen will be portraying Connolly.

I also believe there is a proper famine movie in the pipeline…

I wasn’t a fan of Gangs of New York either. Day Lewis was brilliant but there was an awful whiff of Titantic off the Di Caprio Diaz relationship.
It’s one of only a couple of studio ghibli films I haven’t seen. Have recorded it and will watch it soon. I love all the ghibli films, spirited away is my favourite film ever.

Oh and did you see beasts of the southern wild? Posted about here it a few pages, kind of similar atmosphere to some of the ghibli stuff, one of the most beautiful films I’ve seen in a while.
“Spirited Away” is just fantastic, “Graves…” is a slightly different prospect, its effect is visceral, be prepared for it to stay with you for some time. I had to check out and see if it had the same effect on others and found it did. The Ghibli studio is something else and I’ve seen loads of Asian cinema/TV- being married to an Asian and mostly losing the controller wars.
I haven’t seen “Beasts of the Southern Wild” but intend to very soon.

Barney’s Version is a good little movie. A love story essentially but Paul Giamtiti is very good in it. Worth a watch.

Anyone seen this yet?

Debut film by a guy from Kerry, shot for less than ten grand I believe. Has been getting rave reviews .

Raymond Crotty went to see this on Saturday. I await his review.

When I saw that first I thought the first two words were ‘Barry Venison’.
