I liked it. Thought it recovered well from iron man 2 which was poor, a good run out all in all. Won’t see him again until the next avengers now. In fairness, gwyneth Paltrow is in serious shape.
I possibly expected a little too much from Black within the framework. Palthrow would want to be in serious shape, she’s a joyless cunt, what else does she have to be at.
Agree with most of what has been said so far on The Place Beyond the Pines-I would go so far as to give the first 90 minutes 10/10 as I thought it was amazing up to that point. Gosling and Mendelsohn were outstanding in every scene, great story and soundtrack. It loses its way a bit after that mark but I would still give it 8.5/10. The mark of a good movie for me is if you are thinking about it days afterwards which I was with this.
I went to see “Mud” earlier this evening. Pretty much a modern day ‘Stand by Me’ teen adventure story. An enjoyable watch that keeps you guessing till the end and very impressive performances from the 2 teenage lead characters.
I saw World War Z last night. A very good effort that surpassed my expectations. It avoids the mistake of some zombie type films by not going too deep into the scientific cause and is very well paced. After some mixed reviews and reports of shambolic production, it was pleasantly above average. The actress playing Pitt’s wife was the only glaring weakness, she was just a bit shit.
It is completely different to the novel, in reality only similar in name, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Because the book is so expansive, it would be impossible to do it justice by trying to abridge such a massive plot. I had known in advance it would be nothing like the book, and I think it was a smart move. Something about the Battle of Yonkers wouldn’t have gone amiss though
A solid 8/10.
I went to see The Iceman the other day. It was woeful. Could be an interesting story but the character development is non existent and it’s just boring.
What’s Michael Shannon like in it?
Not terribly good. I like him in other stuff but he’s just neither endearing nor terrifying nor anything. Don’t think it’s his fault because it certainly wasn’t edited together in a way I liked, but it’s an interesting role and he was bland.
I went to see Man of Steel last week-it does not belong in this thread.
Agree. A few tweaks and cutting about 30 mins from it and it might have been quite good. Instead it was a ball of shite.
I enjoyed the first 20 minutes but it is basically a 2.5 hour long computer fight scene-went to it in the iMax too so my ears were bleeding by the end of it.
Its dirge, never a Superman fan and was expecting nothing, but sadly thats all I got. Nothing to recommend it. Avoid.
Man On Fire just starting on RTE1.
Pacific rim was very enjoyable.
I thought it was a load of shite. And I tend to like those kind of popcorn movies.
Giant robots and aliens knocking the shit outta each other with stringer Bell looking on?? class!
I enjoyed Watchmen.
A Serbian film…
