Looks superb. Wanted to see that the other day but was misinformed about release dates.
Have now watched American Hustle which has become available. Decent watch. Wasn’t blown away with it, but a very decent film and good performances. Jennifer Lawrence in particular was very good in it.
I’m increasingly a fan of Miss Lawrence too.
Saw The Great Gatsby earlier… liked it as a film. must read the book again kne of the days.
a great book.
A hijacking
Danish movie about ship being hijacked by pirates and negotiations for release of crew.
Very good. Powerful.
8 out of 10
Watched American Hustle last night.
I would give it a solid 7/10. A little bit cheesy in places but Christian Bale is fantastic as usual. Bradley Cooper keeps getting roles in decent films and I find him to be a shit and very irksome actor. Robert De Niro is also getting on my tits these days. Thought the two main female actors were pretty good in it. I didn’t really think the plot had an awful lot going and it succeeded moreso in delving into the characters.
What’s the general consensus on Cooper anyway? I’ve liked a few films he has been (The Place Beyond The Pines and Limitless being the main two) but my main gripe with all those films has been him. He seems to be one of these people who has to overact everything and can never seem to lose this sense of fucking smugness no matter what role I see him play.

You’re just jealous of him Rudi.
Scarface on RTE 1. Pure quality.

Silver Linings Playbook is his best performance by a mile. I thought he was good in American Hustle, I felt he got the slightly deranged yet vulnerable aspect of the charachter spot on.
He’s just annoys me which probably impacts on my appraisal.
Watched “Out of the Furnace” there recently with Christian Bale and Casey Affleck. Start off well for the first hour with the plot building up nicely but I thought it began to unravel towards the end and concluded with a shit ending. Great cast and great performances by Bale, Affleck, Woody Harrelson and Forest Whitaker but ultimately let down by a really poor second half of the film.
Couldn’t be arsed flicking back through this thread to see if it has been posted about already but I watched Gran Torino the other night. It was brilliant. Most entertaining movie I have watched in ages.
Some quality racism in it.
I watched Captain Phillips last night, which I know has been out for a while. It was excellent, nobody does the real-life stuff like Greengrass can. Tom Hanks was superb too.
Was there a bit of over acting near the end though? I thought it would never end.
Went to American Hustle last night.
Didn’t think much of it. It was vaguely entertaining but the best thing about it was the suits and facial hair. Other than that I was pretty bored. And I went in expecting to love it.
Looking forward to Wolf of Wall Street and two or three other flicks out this month.

Intend on seeing both of those over the coming 2 weeks-I’m less pushed on American Hustle because the trailer annoys me but I am head over heels in love with Jennifer Lawrence and I long for her so much it hurts. I am going to predict here and now that Wolf of Wall Street will be brilliant.
Ironically that sounds a bit homosexual mate.
