Good film without being awesome, slow enough in parts and has no real climax. Just kind of goes along.
McConaughey was fucking brilliant in it though. He lost some amount of weight for it. Between this and Wolf of Wall Street he has gone way up in my estimations of late.
Overall the film was a 16.5 out of 21 for me.
McConaughey was a 36.2/36.2 and will be hard bet for the Oscar. I thought Leo would get it for Wolf of Wall Street but this is exactly the kind of role they give out the Oscars for.

Start on True Detective if you haven’t yet. He’s superb in that also.
Agreed on the climax - I said earlier that it’s hurt a bit by being a true story because it has no natural end, it just fizzles out as a story a bit.
Rocko, given that I’ve read every article, every affidavit (in full) of his teammates in the Reasoned Decision and am a committed reader of The Clinic on cyclingnews forums, should I bother with this or just wait for it to be on the telly?
That docu about Kimmage should be out soon enough and that’s the 2014 cycling doc I’m most looking forward to.

I would have been of a similar mindset though I maybe hadn’t read as much. Certainly @Raymond Crotty is as well versed on the topic as anyone and he found it enjoyable.
It may not tell you much new but it gives you a glimpse into just what a real prick Bruyneel is. You will have known this already but it’s still fun to see how every negative opinion one might hold on the man can get reinforced. And there are a few scenes that are very instructive about Lance’s character.
Also some of the pictures of the actual cycling are excellent. It’s a shame the story was always going to be dwarfed by Lance because the race footage is minimal but what’s there is excellent.
Got to the cinema finally tonight to see The Wolf Of Wallstreet.
I left feeling slightly meh. It was a decent show with some really good laughs throughout but i can’t see how Di Caprio will be within a asses roar of an Oscar on that performance. He was good throughout, he always is but i felt at times his accent drifted noticeably which pissed me off over the 3 hours.
I think the only actor worth an Oscar shout from the film is Jonah Hill, he is excellent throughout.
Overall i would probably give a 7/10. Points deducted for sheer overkill of the story length, 3 hours was too much.

7/10 is a solid score - a B in Ireland although a D in Poland.
Agree Bando. The first 20 minutes were probably the high points of the film acting wise i thought, McConaughey really shines early on as he comes to terms with his illness. But it just seems to drag along from there with little more happening in the story to really test his acting.
A good story well enough told but not a really brilliant cinematic experience. 115/135
Having seen both Di Caprio in Wolf of Wall Street & McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club i wouldn’t be surprised if neither win an Oscar based on their Films.
12 Years a Slave must now be watched to see whether all the fuss about Chiwetel Ejiofor performance is warranted .

37 minutes of Irvine Welsh’s film “Filth”. Sordid sick demeaning degraded garbage. Big Indy supporter is Welsh. Creative Scotland? Keep it.[/quote]
Was the book better than the film? I have to say the film was underwhelming, just an average storyline wrapped up in a load of drugtaking and shite talking. Good performance from McAvoy however.

Where are you watching this, bud? I am greatly looking forward to it but I’ve only seen it advertised on FX and starting later this month.

I thought it was pretty underwhelming. Paint by numbers stuff. Reminded me of The Hangover in that respect. The typical Scorcese “We had it made…and then it all came crashing down” format made it a somewhat tedious three hours as well.
12 Years a Slave is well done, but I think it’s been somewhat overhyped as well. Good review of it in The Onion.

A scandalous piece of filth. Total fucking jokeshop of an effort in the film making industry. Anyone involved in that vomit should never be allowed near a film studio again.

You could not be more wrong. He was the stand out idiot of the film and was thoroughly out of his depth and genre. The scene where he attacked your man with the knife? Have you ever seen such bad acting? Fasbender is the joke of the film. Aside from that the whole story was weak. I couldn’t believe how poor it was. Very cheaply made, foisted out onto a semi brainwashed viewing public. Give it a few big write ups and a big brash trailer and the the public will suck it up. In my opinion it was a major disappointment and a total fucking joke of a film.
Just back from dallas buyers club. A very decent film and letos performance is fantastic, easily his best since requiem for a dream. Mcconaughey is good but nowhere near as good as people have been making out; he should have watched the machinist beforehand to see how to do the ultra skinny thing.
That said, its a very good story and well directed
Still not sure what to make of jennifer garner, off to the roughish birds thread.
