Good Fillums

Saw Black Mass tonight. Was alright not great.

Movie was more about John Connolly and Whitey, than just about Whitey being a gangster.

Johnny Depp was brilliant as Whitey Bulger, he came across as a weird creep and not just a frightening gangster which I he was trying to portray.

It’s no Goodfellas but still worth watching.

Have you seen Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger? Good documentary - thoroughly enjoyed it.

No but will watch it later. The film really didn’t go into his life much, won’t spoil it! It really was as much about John Connolly than Whitey.

Election.

Must have seen it 4 or 5 times now.

Gets better and better.

One of my top 10 films.

I am giddy with anticipation for this, though have a horrible feeling I will be disappointed. I’m still seething over that Jar Jar Binks cunt.

I’d have faith in Abrams delivering a good movie with decent dialogue and acting. That’s all we can hope for. I like the look of the two protagonists, although I don’t particularly like the fact that all the older characters are going to be in.

No doubt you’ll fuck up the ending of this for everyone too

The handling of these will be paramount I feel. I have my own theory regarding one of them.

Beasts of no nation is a good watch. 8/10.

I passed on that one myself. An anti-war, war film. Should I reconsider?

As opposed to the pro-war war films?

Yea, most war films these days are anti-war.
Perhaps Fury was an exception.

I enjoyed it… It’s war but through the eyes of a child soldier but probably needed to be a bit grittier for top marks but it’s an enjoyable watch.

And that was shite

Like Hurt Locker? On the surface, it appeared to be anti-war, but a slight bit of analysis showed it up as a glorification of war, with an hour or two of preening macho bullshit carry on. I suppose the true litmus test of how shit it was is the fact that nobody really talks about it. An yet it won an oscar…

Best of the lot pal were two Kubrick movies - Paths of Glory and Full Metal Jacket.

Full Metal Jacket’s second half was widely touted as being inferior to the training scenes at the start. Dig deeper into the Vietnam scenes though - they have some very powerful metaphors that the critics missed. Cracking movie.

As for Paths of Glory - not only is it the finest anti-war film I’ve ever seen, it still stands as one of the greatest movies ever made. Absolutely epic.

Is Whiplash any use, gents. If not please recommend a good movie that is freely available online.
