Yes it’s to his credit that he approved a script that portrayed him as an arsehole.
There was a bad owl riot at his Slane gig in 1984. There was also a bit of a riot at his Adelphi gig in 1966 in protest at him going electric. He must have been lapping it up at that stage.
The story goes that Brando demanded a percentage and got 1% of the first godfather movies takings on top of his 250k fee so he made a killing on it… apparently he then wanted a higher percentage for part 2 and that was never gonna happen
The sequels suffered from losing key characters from the original film, Fat Clemenza was originally meant to be the one who turned state witness but there was an issue with the actor and studio over the script as he was adamant that his character would never turn on the Corleone family. The character of Frankie five angels was created to replace him.
Robert Duvall had a salary dispute over returning for part 3 and one idea had Tom Hagen splitting from Michael Corleone and switching sides with Joe Zasa, as it turned out Hagen dies off screen before 3 takes place and is a huge loss.
Godfather 3 is an abomination of a movie. Should never have been made.
The first 2 were masterpieces based on the Mario Puzzo novel. Michael Corleone in the last scene looking out over the lake was the perfect ending, all alone and totally immersed in the evil game, so far from where he had started.
The Catholic church angle sunk it like a stone just too convoluted. There are a few bright spots in it I enjoyed the Joey Zasa character and the legend that was Eli Wallach as Don Altobello.
