Cian D’Arcy had a great performance last Sunday. A real unexpectedly good one. Damien Quigley in 94 another one.
I thought Harnedy last week was excellent.
I’m told Eamon Cregan in 1980 and Joe Cooney in 1990 are two that really stand out, but both are before my time.
Never gets spoken about too much but Eoin Kelly in 2009 gave a serious Giro D’Italia against Kilkenny
Lee Keegan had a couple of blinders v Dublin in finals. Peter Canavan in 1995 v Dublin too.
Tony Keady, 86 vs Cork.
Barry Foley was off to a flyer in 1996 until Larry O’Gorman smoked him
Off topic but one of the great gaa seasons is Galway 2018.
Given it game after a history win in 2017. They went to two replays with Kilkenny and Clare. Possibly extra time in both? Then ran a great Limerick team to a point.
Possibly left a mark on them too it was such a tough season.
Bernard Flynn 1991
Padraig Kelly 1993
Jack Sheedy 1994
Kieran Donaghy 2011
Chris Barrett 2017
Pretty much the whole Mayo team 2017
David Clifford 2023
An unlikely nominee but John Mullane played heroically in the clusterfuck that was the 2008 final.
Didn’t Kelly get MOTM in 93?
He did. Hardly hurled a ball after.
Wasn’t a final but the Dublin/Kerry game where a fading Colm Cooper pulled the strings from centre forward in a losing effort was some performance.
John Mullane was brilliant against KK in 08’ final, the only one who showed really from memory.
Kyllian MBappe in the World Cup final against Argentina, the last time the cunt kicked a ball.
I’d say your mixed up with the 2013 semi final.
Cooper, Jod and a couple more produced some of the greatest football every played in the
Opening 25 minutes of a game v Dublin before they got worn down by Jim Gavin’s globo gym.
The way cooper takes a touch and drifts back scanning the field is a thing of beauty. The absolute perfect pass to Donnacha Walsh then as well.
Barrett was unbelievable that day, definitely his best game ever against the greatest team ever
Colm Cooper in the 02 05 08 and 11 finals.
What a game of football.
Cooper’s part in that goal is always singled out but his part in it was easier and lesser to those of Donnacha Walsh and James O’Donoghue.
Na cooper makes time. That’s where a lot of lads cock up.
Walshes lofted handpass almost behind him is beautiful but it’s instinctive.
The whole thing hinged on Walsh.
He was a brilliant player.
Loads of passes like Cooper’s are made and they come to nothing. It’s the guy on the end of the pass who has to make use of the pass. Walsh ripped Dublin apart in an instant with that handpass.
There should be a thread called “Great Gaelic football handpasses”.
Soupy’s on Sunday is close to the top. A fucking cunt of a pass to deal with.
