Back when men were men and they’d the haircuts to prove it.
I always thought Dick O’Hara was born with a beard.
The dude in your avatar would slot in seamlessly there.
Had to do a double take on him, didn’t know who it was initially. First photo I’ve ever seen of him without the beard.
Dublin only getting 4 All Stars despite being All Ireland champions.!!!
In fairness they did finish with only 12 men
Was 1983 in the era when any sending off made a player ineligible for an All Star?
Yep, so Mullens and the other two were discounted. Not like these days…
He only grew the beard to hide all the scars. He used block lads with his head. He was ripped apart.
He was my favourite player from the 82/83 team. And from the South. What’s not to love about him.
Five sons there in Jackstown, Thomastown. The father, known as ‘The Boss’ never went to a match. All well able to hurl. Dick was the eldest and stayed on the farm. The Boss usen’t be too happy whenever Dick got injured.
Shem, the youngest got the pub inside in town and is still running it. Richard, his son is on the TT panel, but he’s be 37 or that now. Preferred play football for KK. Joe, RIP (the best of them, played minor for KK) got killed crossing the street while in college in Dublin.
Don’t know much about John and Bill.
English’s first All Star. Think he scored only two championship points that year (Tipp played just two games) and was on a team relegated in the league. Won another Fitzgibbon that year of course.
Looking through the defenders on the hurling side there brings to mind disappearing down a serial killer rabbit hole on Wikipedia.
