Has the GGA sold its soul?

American football taking precedence over an all Ireland semi final

American football and hurling are the true sports of the gael

They’d sell your soul in a heartbeat @Young Ned of the Hill

hurling is the sport of the british landlord

Yes it has.

It’s a fantastic nod from the GAA to the troops who keep us free.

This trend started in 2012 when the hurling final was moved from its traditional first Sunday in September slot to allow Croke Park to stage a Notre Dame v Navy match on the first Sunday in September, which in the US is the Labour Day bank holiday weekend.

That’s an astute observation, aside from the game in question taking place in The Aviva Stadium.

That’s a clamping.

And a mugging off

I stand corrected on the venue. It was played in the Aviva Stadium on Saturday 1 September. 30,000-40,000 hotel/B&B spaces were required in Dublin for visiting American tourists, so the All Ireland Final was moved from its traditional date which should have been 2 September and put back a week to 9 September. There was no game played in Croke Park that weekend. I was living in Chicago at the time and it was an issue which exercised the GAA community in the US considerably. A lot of Gaels in the US organised their holidays home around the hurling final and the Labour Day bank holiday weekend.

BOOOOM!!!

Stop digging, you’re making a holy show of yourself here.

backtracking and snivelling aint the tfk way

Bollocks. When September has 5 Sundays the finals are played on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month which was the case in 2012.

Ouch.

I believe this, technically, to be not the case. The All-Ireland football final, under the current arrangement, is played seven weeks on from the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. This means the earliest it can be played is September 18th and the latest is September 24th.
