He deserves a thread of his own

Detailed report please Chewy.

He was excellent as always. Nice intimate venue and around 250 or so at the gig. Played a good mix of stuff from his latest album and his older stuff. Was on stage at 8:10 and played til just after 10 without a break and had the crowd eating out of his hand for the most part. A magnificent live performer

Christ, how I love this man:clap:

I still don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. Every feature on him seems to fixate on how he polarized opinion with his vocal style etc. at the beginning of his career. That’s over a decade ago at this stage. For his fans, he has at least 20 stone-cold classics since then, along with a multitude of amazing cover versions. Why can’t they dissect a song like Kilburn Stroll, as they might do if they were interviewing, say, Neil Young, and wanted to talk about Cortez the Killer.

I’m going to write a career overview of Damien Dempsey when I finish this job and even if I only post it here, and maybe send it to the man himself, I’ll be happy enough.

A pal saw him for the first time in Sligo tonight. He rang me afterwards babbling on madly, the zeal of a man who had just experienced an epiphany evident in his jumbled words.
He’s booking tickets tonight for us to see him in Enniscorthy, he says.

When is he playing in Enniscorthy Thraw?

I’ll answer my own question. 22nd June

Myself, my ex-missus and two of my pals all agree that it’s probably his best tune. Which is pretty good going for a guy on his 4th or 5th studio album. He’s actually getting better.

Frankly, I feel sorry for the non-believers.

Disappointed that @Thrawneen chose Brazilian booty over Damian Dempsey this weekend, sounds like it was quite an event

As Irish people we’re often prone to hyperbole as we describe people who we admire/look up to/buy us a pint as heroes. It seems though that Dublin native and singer songwriter supremo Damien Dempsey is truly worthy of that title today.

Mark Ronan, a caller to South East Radio’s Morning Mix, this morning told host Alan Corcoran that, following the Strawberry Fest in Enniscorthy, Wexford last night, he happened to spot two young males in the River Slaney who appeared to be struggling in the water. Mr Ronan, a retired member of the New Ross Fire Service, immediately suspected that the two men were in difficulty and shouted to anyone nearby who might be abe to help.

A man, identified on the radio show as Damien Dempsey, stepped forward, removed his shoes and subsequently jumped into the water and towed one of the men to safety using a blanket of some sort, while the second male swam to the safety of the shore.

Dempsey, still soaking wet, then picked up his shoes and simply walked off.

He is the most beautiful man that ever existed:clap:

The Lord must have given him strength to be strong.

I apologise @Mac . How could I put pussy first?? I’m ashamed. I will try to atone by attending one of his shows in the next couple of weeks. Dun Laoghaire this week would be great but I’m skint after the weekend.

Off to see Damo tonight. Delighted his hatred of greed and corporate culture doesn’t prevent him from playing a private gig for Bulmer’s as they launch their new Clonmel 1650 drink. Principles.

And we sing
Sing all our cares away
Yeah we live
To fight another day.
