Carey. I can think of at least 20 of his scores off the top of my head. I can think of precisely four of Shefflin’s.

Is it just hurling we are to consider or can we consider matters such as management of personal finances, susceptibility to robberies, number of mobile phones owned etc.
Marriages to tossers?
Henry
No contest. Shefflin, JJ, Tommy Walsh were all better than DJ.
Depends on your definition of better.
Carey was a better natural hurler who could produce magic out of nothing. But he didnt have the consistency that Shefflin had. Carey wasnt a leader in the way that Shefflin was either, Shefflin not only managed the team on the field, but his role was a real playmaker and his play brought others into the game. Carey was the sterotypical corner forward who could produce wonderful scores, but Shefflins all round game was better, and if it was a case where you had to pick which one would you want on your team over the other, then I’d pick Shefflin.
Shefflin easily.
A colleague said to me this morning that DJ is the expert on retirements while Henry is doing it once and in style
Tommy Walsh best hurler I’ve seen but of the 2 mentioned, I’d give a hesitant vote to Carey
A colleague that isn’t asking you about the rugby? What kind of kip do you work in?
Not an easy decision. Carey had that air of brilliance on the ball, you knew something special could happen while he was in possession. Henry was never as flashy but equally effective.
DJ was a showstopper.
Henry ran the show.
Shefflin
Both of them playing at their absolute fittest, healthiest and best Carey was the better hurler.
Longevity, leadership and consistency Shefflin had the bigger impact. But you could argue some of that was due to his supporting cast. Carey in 1996 has absolutely no help from anyone and he was near the peak of his powers.
If you were a fan and you had the straightvup choice of paying to watch one over the other you would go for DJ. If you you were a supporter and had the choice of one of them playing for your team you would pick Shefflin
DJ’s inter-county career spanned the period from 1989-2005.
Henry’s inter-county career spanned the period from 199-2014.
Advantage DJ in the longevity stakes.
Its the whole Alex Higgins v Steve Davis argument from 30 years ago.
One more talented the other more dependable. It depends which of these attributes floats your vote really?
DJ carried a poor KK for years, Henry didn’t have his natural ability but you knew what you were getting with him. DJ failed in many AIF’s as an example.
Shefflin will go down as better and will get my vote in this one but I’d pay to watch DJ ahead of Henry.
I know. It’s great!
DJ Carey. No contest IMHO.
No 1 - -Tommy Walsh
No 2 - Sheflin
No 3 - JJ
Close between 2 & 3

DJ has a year on him in the longevity stakes.
